Cannot change email address

I’m trying to change the email connected to my Spotify account to another one of my emails, but it says the email was taken. I logged in with the taken email and found that I had accidentally created an account with it a while ago, and so I closed that account. However, I still cannot change the email on my main account to the other email. It still says the email is taken, even thought that account was closed.
