Changing Email Address

Changing Email Address

Quick question about changing the email associated with Spotify account.

So if I change my email address for my Spotify account, what happens to the old email address? Is it deleted from the systems permanently? Do they keep the old email stored for marketing purposes? I want to change my email but am wondering if the better option would be to delete my account entirely and just resign up with the new email if I want to..

The main purpose is that I want to remove my email from the system completely, so if simply changing my email does this, that will be the easiest solution, but if I need to delete my account in order for this to happen I am willing to do this as well.

If there is something I need to do in order to have my email associated with my Spotify account permanently deleted from my account and the Spotify system please let me know. For example, if I need to contact support to have this specific email "released" and deleted from the systems permanently then I would like to know. Thanks for any advice!

Hey @Joshua70,

Thanks for coming to the Spotify Community.

If you close your account, your personal data will either be deleted or made anonymous so that you can no longer be identified from this data. 🙂

Excluded is the data that Spotify is legally entitled or obliged to keep, for example for tax or accounting purposes, in the event of ongoing legal disputes or to protect against fraud. This process can take up to 30 days during which the email address may not be immediately approved for creating a new account.

You can check out this support article for more info about closing an account and this page for info about the personal data that Spotify collects.

I hope this clears things up! 🙂
