Confusing family log in

Confusing family log in

Evening all. I have a family account. I am trying to add my partner. The email address link gets sent through. Go through all the confirm address part etc. Then it signs into a completely different email address which we don't know the password for and the link for the forgot password repeatedly doesn't work.
We are both on android. Am I missing something? Why is it going to a completely different email address on Internet Explorer. It won't let us sign in with the app as we don't know the password.
It really is a conundrum 😄
