Criteria for Searching a Username/Display Name

My Question or Issue

When searching a friend. Would I use their Username or the (now changeable) Display name? Also does linking a Facebook account to a Spotify account change how to search for someone? I am confused on the process of searching for someone.

Welcome to the Community!

You can search for your friends using both their Username and Display name. Bear in mind that if their Display name is rather generic and many users use the same name it might be a bit harder to find them in the app. We recommend that your friends share a link to their profiles with you if you want to find them easier. You can find more info on how to do that here. 

When you connect Facebook to your Spotify profile your display name will be automatically set to the name you have on your Facebook account. People would need to search for your Facebook name in the app in order to find your profile. Check out this article on how following and finding friends and artists works.

My friends have problem with finding my account on Spotify using my name (Display Name) even though I find them using this method and my account is connected with Facebook. What should I do to fix that?

Hey @macko99,

Thanks for reaching out about this in the Community!

Sometimes you won't be able to find users only by searching for their Display Name, as there might be multiple users with that same name. 

What you can do in this case is go to your Profile > click the 3-dot menu > Copy Link to Profile. After that send your friends the link to your Profile 🙂 This way they'll be able to follow you.
