I recenly purchased a 12 month gift subscription for someone, but I used an incorrect recipient email address. Spotify have taken payment but I can not contact anyone to correct this!! There is no reply from the @spotifycares (!) twitter acount, only a useless automated response from the email contact form and nothing when trying to communicate through paypal!! Surely there is customer service of some form??!!

This sounds bad 😕 There is the contact form here, have you used that as well? If you have, make sure to reply to the automated email they send even if it's a no-reply. Support usually takes 24-48 hours.

Let me know, if you haven't had any news, I can escalate this for you.
