Gary Glitter : Should Spotify carry him?

Gary Glitter : Should Spotify carry him?

Hello,

I have noticed that Spotify carries music for Gary Glitter, a convicted paedophile.

Does anyone have any opinion on this and should Spotify carry his music, therefore providing a stream of income to him?

ABOLUTELY NOT!

Hi guys,

Spotify does not censor content in any way. We simply make music available in whatever form it was given to us.

However, I have passed on your comments to our Content Team.

Some artists may do criminal acts in their life. It doesn't make their music non existant, though. As Spotify's goal is to have all the world's music on the service, it should not be removed just because of a crime an artist has committed.

^ Perfectly true.

If any artist who was a "criminal" was removed I would imagine the catalogue would shrink quite a bit!

A simple search for Gary Glitter doesn't return his artist page, I have to go there through somebody's playlist. Similar artists include his band, the Glitter Band, The Glitter Band doesn't show Gary Glitter as similar artist.

Looks like censorship to me.

Strange, Michael Jackson, who probably abused more children in his life than GG, or someone like Phil Spector, a convicted murderer, are easy to find.

I think I'll switch to Apple Music.
