Help with playing offline

I hope someone can help...

I've just downloaded the Spotify app and straight away upgraded to premium membership (I'm in the one month free trial currently) I understand that with a premium membership, you can play music even if you're not connected to the Internet - I just tried to do this though, and was unsuccessful. It wouldn't let me play anything unless I had internet connection through 3G/4G or was connected to WIFI.

What am I doing wrong? I've only just got the app, so I'm a complete amateur, so please bare with me.

Hey @becky4bagpuss! Welcome to the Spotify Community. ^^

Here's a little tutorial for playing offline music:

1. Choose the playlist that you want to listen offline
2. Click on the playlist
3. Press the 'Available Offline' button

 

After this the playlist should be downloaded. And now you should be able to listen to this playlist offline.

I can't see any 'available offline' button when I click on a playlist?

Best thing to try here is a reinstall. Just follow the steps at http://spoti.fi/1mOyiE1

The 'Available Offline' button should appear after the reinstallation. ^^

The button should look like this:

I have deleted and re-installed the app and it still isn't working. There's no 'available offline' button in sight? I haven't downloaded any music yet, or created any of my own playlists. Do I have to do that first?

Yes, you have to follow or create a playlist.

If you've done that the button should appear. ^^
