How do I delete an account without a password?

My son opened a spotify account some time ago and never really used it.  Since then he has forgotten his password and the email address associated with the password is no longer live so we can't simply reset the password.  I think it's best to delete the account and start again (so that I can link him to our family subscription).  However, you can't delete an account without a password.  Please help!  I so have his username though!
