Paying by Amex Gift Card

I'm having trouble with payment. I have a brand new Amex Gift Card and it won't let me use it as payment. Any idea as to why?

Have you contacted your bank to make sure that it's activated or if they have some issue with online transactions?

Yes. I checked the account an the available balance is more than enough to cover the payment.

So, you enter cc details and then what? It gives you any error codes?

I enter the card information and it tells me something along the lines of "Your card is having a bad day. Try again later." I of course try again later, and I get the same message.
