Hi there
I'm having problems logging on to spotify, first it tells me its an error 101 caused by firewall problems. But I've checked and it hasn't got anything to do with that. Then it tells me to enter my proxy settings. But I haven't got a clue about where to find my proxy settings. It asks about Host, Port, Username and Password. And it allows me to choose between Auto-detect, No Proxy, HTTPS, Socks4 and Socks5.
Help would very much be appreciated.
Solved! Go to Solution.
Turn off any firewall you may be running and same goes for the router firewall if relevant then see if you can connect successfully. If it works, you'll need to make some exceptions in one or both firewalls.
Hey! Welcome to the community 🙂
Error 101 is almost always a connected based error due to a firewall or other hardware/software blocking spotify.
Have a go at all of the steps in this help page for a little help getting it going.

Thanks for the help, but it didn't solve the problem 😞
Are you able to try connecting using a different WiFi network at all?
It will help track down to see where the problem lies.

Are you using your own home internet or are you at work/university?
Peter, no i'm not currently not able to connect with any other WiFi network....
Hey Joe, I'm using my home internet.
Turn off any firewall you may be running and same goes for the router firewall if relevant then see if you can connect successfully. If it works, you'll need to make some exceptions in one or both firewalls.
Its working now, I think it had something to do with my Mcafee controlling some of the firewall settings. I simply just changed it back, so I was able to manage it manually using windows firewall.
Thanks Joe and Peter :).
No problem at all! Enjoy your music 😄

I am having the same issue. I am using home internet. I have tried to change firewall settings (looks like spotify is allowed) but I have no clue about proxy's (I get the same message... choose proxy, no proxy, etc etc). Any help trouble shooting this would be great. --- More info --- I could use spotify just fine when I first bought this computer (new Windows 8 acer) but 2 weeks later Spotify just stopped allowing me to connect. I'm going crazy without spotify. Thank you so much for giving my children and I some dance music/happy music... but help me get it back ! 🙂 --- Thanks ----

@A3Star If you are using spotify at home, don't worry too much about proxies 🙂
Has anything changed recently on yur PC such as a new antivirus or other security programme? The first thing to try is to temporarily disable any firewall, antivirus and other security programme and see if Spotify connects. If it does, you'll need to add an exception in whichever programme was causing the issue to allow spotify internet access,
Programmes which could be blocking access include windows firewall, norton macafee as well as others.
I have looked at the firewall settings. Seems like spotify has access and working fine. No new anti virus programs on the computer. Perhaps just an 'update' of the anti virus program that came with it... I tried to unplug router and uninstall/reinstall spotify a few times. Still nothing lets it 'work' ... Thanks for the suggestions... send more and I'll keep going through the list 😄
I went back into McAfee settings and just kept looking around at different things... I stumbled across a different way "in" to change the firewall settings and sure enough Spotify was "blocked" ... I think I just screamed out loud with JOY over having SPOTIFY back on... OOOOOHHH MY thank you so much for just giving me some incentive to keep trying and it was a simple click click that made it work again. Please always keep Spotify as awesome as it is now. *peace restored* 😄 Have a great night!
