Should I be getting ads?

I've just joined spotify today and was told by a friend that when you join, it's ads free for the first 6 months but I've just has two ads appear.

Your friend is incorrect.

All Spotify free users will see and hear adverts inside their client. Your music listening time is unlimited for the first 6 months your account is registered, after that you are restricted to 2.5 hours per week and in some countries other restrictions on play counts.

Is this something new? Whenever we used her account not one ad came up and we would listen to music for at least 3-4 hours straight.

She got her account in January 2012.

Are you sure she is not an unlimited or premium subscriber? 

To my knowledge all free accounts have adverts and they always have.

No, she has a free account, I'm very certain. When the 6 months was over though she began to get ads and a cap on her listening time.

She must just be very lucky then! 

I have a free account which I use to test things and I have always had adverts 😛
