Spotify and Last.fm

Solved!

Spotify and Last.fm

I am not clear how Spotify works in conjunction with Last.fm. I have an account with both (free).

Each has a scrobbler. Each has a radio station. Am I supposed to have both scrobblers on? Do I sign in to both at the same time?

On a Macbook, here.

Thanks for any help!

Hello @chip92114, welcome to the community!

There are some major differences:

  1. Last.fm Is a music recommendation service, Spotify is an on-demand music service.
  2. Last.fm takes the music you listen to on Spotify and keeps tracks of how many listens, your weekly top artists and songs, and then provides you with charts, listening habit information, radio, and new artist recommendations.
  3. You can sign in to both at the same time, but you don't have to. You can just go to preferences and provide your Last.fm information there and it will scrobble every track you listen to on Spotify.

If you need more clarification on this let me know 🙂

Hope this helped 🙂

Thank you! It is more clear now.

With both sites having a Scrobble function and radio function, it was pretty confusing.

So, I can just use Spotify, and enable scrobbling to both Spotify and Last.fm, it sounds like.

You don't need both desktop clients, see the preliminary remarks of the Last.fm for Spotify app support group. The Last.fm scrobbler only scrobbles your local file library on your computer (no more radio streaming since April 28th, 2014), but it can also show you what you are scrobbling with the Spotify desktop software if you run both clients at the same time. See also my longer reply concerning the Spotify on-demand playback from Last.fm pages in the Last.fm support forum.
