My Question or Issue
I've been getting the run-around from Spotify Support on this for a while, about to lose my mind.
When I attempt to log into Spotify on my laptop, it requests a code from an authenticator app. I don't use an authenticator app. The other method of logging in is to enter a backup code, which it says was generated when I set up 2-step verification. I've never set up 2-step verification on my account, so I don't have a back up code.
My best guess as to what is going on has to do with an Artist account that used to be linked to my account. This issue only came up after I transferred management of that Artist account to somebody else. I'm assuming that after I granted access to that account to another person, they set up additional security settings before unlinking my personal account, so now those settings apply to my account.
I haven't been able to contact the person I transferred that account to, so I can't confirm that theory, but that's my best guess, since I never actually set up 2-step verification on my personal account myself. Fortunately, I can use Spotify on my desktop and phone, but I think that is only because I haven't logged out since I transferred management of that Artist account.
What can I do to fix this? My support ticket keeps getting passed around to new people, so I keep explaining this situation again and again, and the only two solutions that have been offered are:
1. Migrate to a new account, losing seven years of listening history as a result. (I consider this an unacceptable option solution.)
2. Login and turn 2-step off. I can access my account settings via my desktop, but when I attempt to edit my security settings, I am sent to a browser-based login portal, which I can get through because I don't have an authenticator code.
