Strange username

When I go to the main Spotify Web Page, my username on the top-right of the screen is some strange, jumbled mess of characters that i did not enter myself anywhere when signing up. The name i signed up with was Zingy but instead my username is this "1mxmqwgvyy670eo3pceqe4zej". As I wrote before I did not enter this anywhere, any help would be appreciated.

Spotify is always testing new things in order to improve. Recently, they've made some changes to the sign-up form, so that users can now choose a display name instead of a username.

Yes i have questions.

1. How did this happen and what happened to the name i actually wrote?

2. What should I do to fix it?

1. The name you entered is your display name.
2. There's nothing to 'fix' here. It's expected behaviour and not an issue 🙂

Then what is the difference between Display name and username? And no I did not write 1mxmqwgvyy670eo3pceqe4zej as my username, not even close

You were able to add a display name to your account when signing up.

Your name on your user profile will still show as Zingy, and any playlists made by you will show as made by Zingy too.

You should be able to log into Spotify using your email address or username (not your display name!).

Thank you that did clear things up, however as I said earlier why did I get 1mxmqwgvyy670eo3pceqe4zej as my username even though I didn't write it in any of the boxes? Seems like a bug to me

That's because Spotify has recently changed some things in their sign-up form. Users are now asked to choose a display name instead of a username.

They can set their display name to whatever they like and the usernames are generated by the system.

the actual username is not chosen by me: it is an actual name but i was never asked to enter it. It seems that it was chosen for me; it is a bit strange.

Can i still change my username?
