Username is random letters and numbers.

Hello!

I first registered to Spotify with the username lolashihara a couple weeks ago. However, upon first looking at my profile, I saw that my username is just a long string of letters and numbers! I've read so many similar threads but to no avail.  l realise that Spotify does this in order to keep user data organised, but let me elaborate further. Searching lolashihara up from my account or a friend's does not work at all, and it appears as if this jumble of characters is the only username belonging to me. Even the webpage to edit my account shows this! I tried waiting a bit after registration, but nothing changed.

How can I fix this issue? It's incredibly frustrating - I don't want to be stuck with a long chain of random numbers and letters.

Please help me resolve this. Any help would be much appreciated.

As Spotify looks to improve the overall user experience, they’re now automatically generating random usernames. However, during sign up, you can personalize your account by creating a profile name that’s displayed in the app.

Usernames and profile names can't be modified; however, other users will be able to find you with the profile name you chose, and the random username won't show up on your Spotify profile. Sometimes the random username is displayed in the app, but it usually updates itself after a little while with the profile name you chose when creating your account.

It's typically very difficult to find an account by searching for the profile name since many accounts have the exact same profile name. However, once you have followed the account, you should be able to easily search for it.

The best way to share your Spotify profile with your friends is by sharing a link to your profile. I'd recommend checking out the steps in the "Share your profile" support article for some more help with this.

Thank you for the advice, but it's not quite what I was looking for. The random profile name is the only thing that shows up, regardless of whether I'm looking at my account from my account or another person's. I chose a specific profile name when I was signing up, and yet this random username is the only thing linked to my account! And yes, I've tried sharing my playlist, but again, this is the only thing that appears. There are no other listed profiles with the profile name lolashihara, so it can't be an issue of many people sharing the same name. I'm just curious as to why Spotify asked me to choose a public profile name, but simply won't display it!

Please get back to me with any explanation or advice as to how I can fix this.

Thanks for reaching out, we'll gladly explain a bit more.

Usernames on new accounts are now a string of letters and numbers in order to be able to provide more customization options for our users.

With the implementation of this feature we were able to allow users to choose the exact display name they would like to have, and recently gave them to option to edit that name as well.

You can now choose a display name by following these steps. A display name replaces the username where it shows on your profile, app, playlists, and Friend Activity.

Once you set a display name, the randomly generated username, which is used to identify you on Spotify, will only be visible on the private account overview page.
