Where did my "message" box go?

Hi.  As of this afternoon - I have no message box and can't seem to view the messages that have been sent to me - nor can I send messages.  Has anyone else had this experience?

Thank you.  I can tell you how my heart just sunk though.  There were irreplaceable messages in my system.  Crushed. 😞
