muliple devices running off 1 account at same time

Hi all,

I've searched the forums and could not find a thread which is relevant to this.

I am currently using an alternative music streaming service (which I shall not name) and I am very much interested in using Spotify after all the goodness I hear about it but I would like to know whether both me and my partner can play music at the same time using my subscription?

Can anyone please help me?

Thanking you in advance.

Regards,
Nobby

I have a Premium account I share with my son. With Premium you have the ability to download playlists onto your device. You're also able to use the Offline mode where you can only play playlists that you've downloaded.

If we both want to listen to new stuff (that's being streamed, not downloaded), we can't. One of us needs to go offline and listen to our downloaded playlists. This works for our family.

If you both wanted to listen to tracks at the same time, and didn't want to bother with downloading playlists and going offline, then the Family subscription works for you.

The other advantage of the family subscription is that the Spotify recommendations are tailored to the music you listen to. At the moment, a lot of the recommendations I get are based on my son's listening choices, which are a little different than mine:)

Hey there,

reading the terms and conditions of Spotify, you are not allowed to share accounts. There's a "backdoor" mentioned above, but I won't risk using it as it is "illegal". With the family plan all members have their own account, but there are several suggestions in our ideas exchange according to your request. You can leave your comments/kudos there if you want to support them:

Actually, I think I've answered my own question now after reading information regarding Spotify Family.

Can someone please confirm that to be able to play Spotify simultaneously on two devices I would need the family package and cannot be done using 1 premium subscription?

I like Wardman's explanation – thanks. Carina your explanation makes me think id rather spend my £10 per month elsewhere with Deezer, like I currently am.
Thanks and I've made my decision where I should spend my hard earned cash. It ain't here with Spotify.

That's an interesting point about sharing accounts. At the time we set up our subscription, Spotify had just started here in Australia and we set up two accounts - one for me and one for my wife - both Premium.

Had a family subscription been available at the time we would have considered it. We didn't realise that Spotify wouldn't allow it.

Spotify have only just released their Family subscription here. How did I find out about this - I saw it mentioned on my desktop version this morning. I don't recall seeing any emails about it. I wonder if this will be promoted to existing users?

So we'll probably add my wife's account under mine and add an additional one for my son - this way we're still paying the same amount but we can add him on. This is something that should have been available right from the start.
