Does the app crash on any other occasion or only in the Recents section and do you see any error messages?

If you've not performed any troubleshooting steps so far I recommend going for a clean reinstall with the steps here. It helps resolve different performance issues, as well as makes sure you're using the newest app version.

Additionally, give this a go with a different internet connection, as well as on another device and let us know how Spotify behaves.
