Car Mode doesn't auto-enable in my car

Car Mode doesn't auto-enable in my car

Plan

Premium

Country

Device

Motorola G8 Power, 2014 Renault Fluence with standard bluetooth radio

Operating System

(Android 11)

In the last few days, Car Mode doesn't enable when I'm in my car. The feature is there if I go to settings and swith from "only in a car" to "always", but doesn't come on automatically.

Cleared Spotify Cache and reinstalled app

Forgot phone and car and reconnected

Funny thing is that Spotify sees my car as a car on the player (even has the little car icon next to where it's playing from on the bottom left) but just doesn't switch to Car Mode on its own.

Any suggestions welcome

Hey @baznuge,

Thank you for reaching out here in the Community.

First off, we'd suggest that you ensure the car mode settings on your device are properly configured. Always restart your device when you change settings.

It's also a good idea to update your phone OS - check for any available updates in the settings of your phone and install them if necessary as those usually include bug fixes and improvements that can resolved compatibility issues.

Lastly, we'd recommend that you double check if you've paired and connected your phone and your car correctly. Helpful steps can be found in this article.

Hope this helps. If anything else comes up, the Community will be here for you.

Sadly no luck.

Hey @baznuge,

Thank you for keeping in contact and for the confirmation.

In this case, would you mind pairing a different device with your car (using your own account) to see if it makes any difference? If you don't have another one available, you can borrow one from a friend or family member to test it out.

Also, include in your next response the Spotify version you're currently running to continue investigating the case.

We'll be on the lookout.

My Question or Issue

My app is not entering car mode when linked to my car.

Tested with another device, that works fine. So it's isolated to my Moto G8 Power running Android 11.

Hey there folks,

Thanks for the replies.

@baznuge We'd suggest you reach out directly to the support team from Motorola about this. If this behavior is isolated to your Android device only, then this is most probably outside of Spotify's control. It's best to inform your phone manufacturer that there is certain incompatibility with the Spotify app and especially with the detection of Car Mode.

@Gurglemuf If you've tried all the troubleshooting mentioned in this thread and you're still experiencing this, we'd recommend that you contact your device's manufacturer as well as this sounds like an issue with your individual set-up.

We will keep updating the Spotify app on our end with general fixes and stability improvements, but can't promise that this specific issue will be addressed, since, as we mentioned, it sounds dependent on the device, which we have no control over.

Hope it gets sorted out soon. If you need anything else, the Community is here for you 🙂

I can assure you with certainty that the problem is not isolated to Motorola or Android devices, as my iPhone 12, updated to the latest version of iOS (17.1.1), also has the same bug. The problem started to appear after a Spotify update (8.8.86) and continues to exist with version 8.8.90. So, in my opinion, the problem is the Spotify app and not our devices! Thank you.
P.S: I too have already done all the clean reinstallations, as per the Spotify support suggestion, but the problem persists!

Even with the latest Spotify update yesterday (version 8.8.92) car mode still doesn't work. Again, this is not a problem isolated to Motorola and Android

Will anyone ever reply to me or take this issue seriously? It is clear that it involves many devices and not just a few and that the problem is the Spotify app

Hey there!

Apologies for the late reply here 🙂

Please take a look at the last comment by @Lyubka
Before reaching out to your respective manufacturer though, please make sure you've gone over all troubleshooting steps mentioned in the thread.

We'd also recommend creating a new test Spotify account to see if the issue would persist with it.
There is also a slight possibility that this whole thing might somehow be account-related but we can't know until we test it out.

Many thanks! We'll be on the lookout for your reply.

Hi Vasil.

The issue only occurred since Spotify did an update, and worked fine before. There's  no software updates for my model phone and it seems like a compatibility issue for Spotify and older Android & iOS iterations, which is disappointing.

Also, I tested with wife's phone, which is also Motorola, and there was no issue there; the common element appears to be lack of support for older phone OS.

Hey @baznuge,

Thank you for keeping in contact.

In order to continue investigating this issue and taking into account the findings you've mentioned, would you mind including the OS version of the affected device?

It would also be great if you could have someone log in with their account on your device - such as a friend or a family member, to see if the issue persists. This will help us understand if it could be account-related or not.

We'll be on the lookout.

Hi Oscar,

Also I've tried the other account, didn't work

Hey there @baznuge

Thanks for your reply.

We can confirm that the app is designed to run with the latest OS updates and we're aware that some features might not work properly on old versions.

We appreciate you taking the time to share this report with us and will make sure to pass it onto the right team. We can't confirm when or if this will be fixed, but we'd recommend keeping the app and the device's OS up to date so you don't miss out on any possible fixes or improvements.

Just edited to add: re-read your post and wondering if you mean the car mode display where it simplifies the buttons? If so, they removed that feature. Seemed like most people didn’t like it. 🤷🏻‍♀️
