Chromecast volume control while Spotify is running in background - GONE!!

Solved!

Chromecast volume control while Spotify is running in background - GONE!!

For a copule of days now I haven't been able to control the volume of Spotify on Chromecast while the app is in the background. It only works while the app is in the foreground. This has always worked until now. I'm still able to use the volume control in all other Chromecast apps that I use, while they are in the background.

But when Spotify is running in the backgorund there is no Chromecast volume control avaliable anymore.

This is really annoying since changing the volume has been possible til no, even when the screen has been locked.

Anyone else have this problem? Any suggestions on how to fix this?

I'm also having intermittent issues. After a while (hours) volume change
stops working - even inside the spotify app. It usually works to switch
audio output to phone and then back to chromecast.

I think this is very hard to programme but it's getting better. The stability is still **bleep** I must admit. Weird Google's developers isn't better than that.

*I think* this could be related to android battery optimisation.
Under settings > battery > {menu option} battery optimisation, I added both spotify and Home apps to the "not optimised" list.
Seems to have helped me so far, ymmv.

Disabled battery optimizations to no avail. This is extremely annoying! Spotify Android version 8.4.18.743

The problem still persists for me. Galaxy S8. Spotify 8.4.19.792 armV7.

i am having this issue on Android 7.1.1 and Spotify 8.4.24.871armV7.  CCA volume control initially works when first starting Spotify and connecting to a CCA but after a while it stops working.  Have to close the spotify app and reopen it to change CCA volume.    I just turned off battery optimize for Spotify to see if this fixes the issue.

I do not have google home installed...because of spotify audio drops outs when connected to CCA devices.

i can honestly say that using Spotify with CCA devices is both great and horrible at the same time.  i have had both the audio drop outs and the volume control loss when connected to CCA devices.  Admittedly when not using CCA devices Spotify works fine.

1 week later

-----------------

- disabling spotify battery optimizations in settings has greatly improved the issue...i can consistently change the volume on the CCA devices even when spotify has been playing for hours

- uninstalling google home has greatly improved the audio drop issue

Hi, I've been facing the exact same problem lately... Battery optimization settings aren't changing anything.

I just can't understand how a bad update can get passed the beta testing program.

This has nothing to do with Googles developers. It works in all other apps, its just Spotify that sucks

I'm on the stable v8.4.31.723 and it's still persists. Guys, it must be Spotify Connect's fault which hijacks the volume somehow. When you change the volume in the app (when it actually does work) you can see it's not the default system UI slider but Spotify's custom one, which makes me (again) think it's something to do with the Connect functioning improperly. Maybe Android just kills the service after some time in the background, don't know, but it's been over a year since the first report and there's still no fix.. 😞

Turning off Android's battery optimisation for the Spotify app solved the issue for me. Go to Settings > Battery > ... menu (top right corner) > Battery optimisation. Then choose "All apps", scroll down to Spotify, click on it and choose Don't optimise.

Android Nougat

Spotify 8.4.30.688 armV7

Cheers, just did that. Let's see if it helps.

Disabling battery optimisation didn't help.

Google Pixel, Android 8.1.0

Where's the fricken volume bar?!

Uninstall/Reinstall works
