My Question or Issue

When I skip or pause, I get a delay in Android Media Control, namely in Spotify, at lock screen the same, with other applications it is not so. The most interesting thing is that in the menu ANC itself there is no delay, but in the widget that can be added to the desktop, there is a delay.

Hey there @Oke68,

Thanks for your reply here and for the info shared.

Just to confirm, have you tried some of the troubleshooting steps proposed here previously? If yes, let us know what exactly you've tried, so we can avoid repeating any steps.

If you haven't yet, we'd suggest you perform a clean reinstall of the app to make sure the stored cache is not leading to this behavior. You can follow the steps in this article to do it.

If the above doesn't do the trick, we'd like to gather some additional info. Please send us:

  • Does this happen when playing some specific content? If yes, send us the link to it.
  • Did you notice if this started to happen after a specific event such as an OS update?
  • Does this happen over WiFi? 3G/4G? Both?
  • Are you using any cache-clearing or task-killing apps? If yes, try setting Spotify as an exception. Take into account that these apps can affect the performance of the app.

Keep us in the loop!

Hi!!

In my case it was the Instagram application.

I first tried force stopping it and it finally stopped lagging. So I tried uninstalling it and trying an older version of it from APKMirror...v341.0.0.45.100 to be exact and it stopped. My phone's model is the Samsung Galaxy S10 on Android 12.

Same issue here. Wouldn't be surprised if it was by design. Looking at cancelling my account and switching platforms now.

-Samsung S10+; Android 12; OneUi 4.1

-Spotify version : 9.0.36.697

-Delays on widget, I have to open the app and navigate to now playing to use playback controls reliably (pause, reverse, skip)

Instagram also seemed to be the culprit for me. Will there be issues in using an older version of instagram?

I didn't have any issues except Instagram updating itself and getting the same problem as before. So just disable automatic updates for it and you're good to go...

Hey again folks,

Thank you for the patience and for sharing what worked for you @Kostas3255 and @cavey! This helps with the investigation.

The tech team has asked us for some more info and it would be very helpful if you could try turning on developer options to see CPU usage and get back to us.

Steps here:

  1.  Enable Developer Options:

    • Go to Settings > About Phone/About Device and tap on the Build Number seven times.

    • You'll see a message saying "You are now a developer".

  2.  Access Developer Options:

    • Go back to Settings and you'll find a new option called "Developer options".

  3.  Enable Show CPU Usage:

    • In Developer Options, locate and enable "Show CPU usage".

    • This will display CPU usage in the top right corner of the screen.

Thank you and we'll be on the lookout!

Hi Susan, I've also had this issue. I've managed to get some adb logcat output of it happening, hopefully that's helpful. I thought at first it was Samsung's battery optimiser interfering, but I set both Spotify and the Media Panel to unrestricted and it still happens.

  • Spotify Version: 9.0.42.529
  • Device: Android 12 (One UI Core 4.1) on Samsung Galaxy M31 (SM-M315F)
  • Happens on both lock screen and notification screen
  • It's been present for several months, but I couldn't narrow it down past that

Here's a video of the cpu usage when instagram is conflicting with spotify.

Assuming this is related to the Spotify & Instagram integration feature... This is was the fix for me.

    - For Instagram, go to App info. Under Battery, select Unrestricted.

    - For Instagram, go to App info. Under Application data usage, set the toggle for Allow background data usage to off.

This might break IG notifications or functionality but that's not something I personally care about. The true fix will probably require some collaboration from Meta and from Spotify so don't hold your breath waiting on a patch. Gotta love aggressive timelines that increase shareholder profits am i rite?

As of v9.0.46.496, this is fixed for me.

Hello there! İ've got a similar issue because the controls on my Moto G50 do work but they lag something like a minute before resuming play/stopping. This began a couple months ago when İ updated the app and the controls started acting up 😕
