Downloading a playlist on Android causes Spotify to think it's offline forever

Solved!

Downloading a playlist on Android causes Spotify to think it's offline forever

I've been using Spotify on my Andriod tablet (running Android 4.0.3) for some time now, and it's been great, mostly.  I really like the improvements in the new version, but my one outstanding issue with the old version is still not resolved.  Very simply, if I download a playlist, any playlist, and the app closes (due to out of memory, restarting device, etc) when spotify starts back up it thinks it's permanently in offline mode, and can't connect to the internet.  This defeats the entire point of Spotify, as it forces me to choose whether to have local music or to stream, and spotify is all about having both.  I've tried everything: wiping the cache, unmarking all playlists for download, etc.  The only thing that fixes it is reinstalling the entire app.  I waited to report this because I'd heard there wasn't an update to the android app in months, meaning y'all were working on a new one, but this major issue still isn't fixed.  I have debugging and developer modes enabled on my tablet, and can supply any logs/configuration/work necessary.

After doing some further digging, I've found that it looks like the issue in this thread, which is solved by having an IMEI.  Now off to find an IMEI number faker until Spotify gets its act together and removes the if{}else{} that's preventing me from syncing without one.  A passing mod can mark this as duplicate or resolved if they like.
