Can't pick songs to play when "Liked Songs" is on "Smart Shuffle".

My Question or Issue

Is anyone else unable to pick songs when Liked Songs is on "Smart Shuffle".  I can only press play for my Liked Songs to play in that mode.  Any information or help will be appreciated.

Hey there @BDub

Thanks for getting in touch about this here in the Community.

Just to confirm, is this happening across devices or only on a specific one? Also, does this happen with any network?

If so, we'd recommend logging out and then logging back in to your account twice in a row. We know this sounds odd, but it'll trigger a sync between your account and device.

If that doesn't do the trick, it's well worth running a clean reinstall of the app to get rid of any cached files that might be causing trouble.

Let us know how it goes.

I used to be able to open up my Liked Songs playlist and have Smart Shuffle enabled and click on the first song I want to listen to before letting Smart Shuffle do it's thing. But now I have to disable Smart Shuffle every time then choose my song and re enable Smart Shuffle.

Hey @tvanpelt,

Thanks for taking the time to post this thread!

Would you mind sharing some more info on what exactly you're experiencing? Does the selected song not start playing if Smart Shuffle is enabled and instead another one is played? Do you notice the same behavior in other playlists and not only in Liked Songs?

It'd be great if you could also let us know what troubleshooting steps you've tried so far. If you've not done this already, I recommend logging out > back in twice in a row to resync the account and device. Also, a clean reinstall often helps resolve different performance issues.

If the same thing continues to happen, feel free to send us a Video recording so we can check this out. You can share it via the Insert Video option in the post editor or upload it to Google Drive and share the link with us (make sure the video has the permissions for anyone to see it).

We'll be on the lookout for your response 🙂

Hey there @31yhrmpxd5lnvlsuza2i,

Thanks for reaching out in this thread!

Just to confirm, have you tried any troubleshooting steps? For example clearing stored cache, a clean reinstall, trying with another internet connection, etc. Feel free to give it a try if you haven't already. This will also help us avoid repeating steps.

Should the issue persist, it would be great if you could send us a few more details on what's happening from your end:

  • The exact make, model and OS version of your device(s) would be helpful in this case.
  • Does it only happen with Liked Songs or with other playlists as well?
  • Current Spotify version.

Let us know how you get on!

My Question or Issue

I've recently increased the size of my liked songs playlist beyond 730ish songs. Since then I've been frustrated that I can't seem to play many of the songs at the top of the list.

On tap, the current song will stop, but the one I've tapped does not start. If I scroll down to a different song, it feels more like lag. The further down I scroll, the more responsive the app seems to get. This behavior persists through device and app restarts.

I recently discovered that if I disable Smart Shuffle the app behaves normally again. I assume this is because it tries to analyze the playlist. But starting from a lower point should affect that unless smart shuffle only analyzes songs below the current selection, I would think.

Hey @FP9,

Thanks for reaching out and welcome to the Spotify Community!

We've merged your post with this thread, since we've started looking into the issue here and wanted to keep everything in one place, hope you don't mind! To continue investigating what's happening, it'd be great if you can give @Maria's suggestions about troubleshooting the issue a try and share the requested info in case the issue persists afterwards.

We'll be on the lookout.
