Google Assistant/Google Home - Can't ask for personal playlist

Is there a specific reason why I can call out to my google assistant to play a public playlist but when I ask it to play a personal playlist, it won't call it up? I've even tried creating a shotcut in the google assistant, this was I could type out the name of the playlist but still won't work. Is this a common spotify issue as this seems to work perfectly when using google music.
