Google assistant won't play songs on Spotify

Google assistant won't play songs on Spotify

Google assistant won't play songs on spotify, it just says "playing on spotify", then it opens spotify and nothing happens. Telling google to play an album or artist works instantly.
Edit: Samsung galaxy A5 2017, android 7.0, Spotify 8.4.37.587 armV7

Anyone having problems again?

Just checked, it's still working perfectly for me.

Seems to have stopped working again after an update. Running build 8.4.39.673.

Yes I have noticed this, too. Shame.

Yep, no longer working for me either. This is ridiculous.

Doesn't work for me either. Samsung A5 2017, Android 7.0, Spotify v 8.4.39.673 armV7

Also have problems getting it to play any of my playlists by voice either. It never used to work, then started working for a while a couple of months ago, now it will play playlists when I ask it to but not any of my own. Infuriating.

I have the opposite problem.

I can play specific songs OK.  However, if I say "play David Bowie" (or any other band) it opens the artist page but does not start to play.

Also, I cannot control Spotify by voice other than from the Google Assistant screen

My google assistant tells me I need to be a Spotify premium subscriber which I am. How do I get the Assistant to recognise premium

Yea I can't seem to play **bleep** on spotify using google assistant, having basically the same issues as the rest of you.

In addition, on the home screen, I have the familiar "sorry, something went wrong etc." message and when I try to search, I get the "you're offline, etc." message. I figured I was having issues with google assistant playing songs because of the issues already present in spotify, until I found this thread.

Currently I am only able to play songs / albums recently played, or anything form my library it seems.

I worked out that my problem is that I was using Google Voice Search, not Google Assistant.  Voice Search has limited functionality.  Not sure why it will play Albums but not Bands so maybe it is time for a new phone!

(My mobile only has 1gb RAM and so I cannot install Google Assistant without rooting etc.)

For others in my position there is an app which works ok, subject to some limitations

Yea you know that registered with me after I made my post, I do remember google now working better with spotify than google assistant currently does. To bad, you think this would be an easy fix.

This worked for my on my S7 Edge.

I fixed my issue by finding out that I was logged in on more than one device. Logged out of spotify on my phone then my Google home started playing spotify. Hope this helps

Hey there, did you ever get a solution for this? I'm having the exact same issue.

On my pixel 2,  I just delete the Spotify app cache and data in the app manager - then re login - it seems to fix it albeit temporarily.

Hey! Thanks for the reply! Yeah I did try that but no luck.... 😕 Ok! I'll
keep researching 🙂

Hi, I was logged into spotify with my mobile phone on a different
internet account.
As soon as I logged out of spotify on my phone, I could connect with
google home.
Hope it helps.

I've got a Huawei P20 Pro. I ask to play a song and it will say that is asking Spotify to play the song, then nothing happens. The app doesn't even open!

Help!!

Hi, Have you installed google home on your phone. Usually you have google home installed on your phone from the play store, then you need to link your Spotify account in the home app. I am not that familiar with your phone, but hope this info steers you in the right direction. Also make sure you are not logged into Spotify on another device. You can also open Spotify app directly and play a song then look down the bottom of your screen and you will see “Devices available” open this link and it should show any devices capable of playing your music eg Bluetooth speakers and home assistant devices. Make sure your phone is selected. Good luck.
Regards
Stuart
