How do you phrase a voice command to get spotify to play a playlist.

How do you phrase a voice command to get spotify to play a playlist.

When using Spotify with Android Auto, no matter how I phrase the request, spotify plays either a song or a band with a similar name instead of the playlist requested.

Hi there,

Thanks for posting in the Community and welcome!

So we can get a better understanding of the situation, would you mind recording a video and sending it over? Does the same thing happen if you're not using Android Auto, but just your phone and have you tried any troubleshooting steps so far?

You can attach the video to your next response by using the Insert Video option in the post editor, but if the attachment is too big - we'd suggest that you upload it to Google Drive and share the link with us (make sure the video has the permissions for anyone to see it).

Hope to hear from you soon 🙂

I found a workaround. If I use "ok google"... For instance, "OK Google, play my playlist (playlist name) in Spotify." It works. It does mean I have to have Google assistant turned on, but it doesn't work with "Hey Spotify" I can request a specific song, or artist, but not one of my created playlists. I was simply curious to know what the proper phrasing was to get the playlist if there is one.

Thanks for the response and for the info, @Skooj.

Just to be on the safe side, I recommend making sure there are no pending OS updates for Android Auto, as well as on your phone and that you're using the newest available Spotify version. This should ensure that no issues occur with the app's behavior.

If the same thing continues to happen, let us know if this also occurs when you're not using Android Auto, but just your phone and it'd be great if you could send over a video so we can check it out.

In the meantime, don't hesitate to give us a shout if you need help with anything else 🙂

Out of curiosity, is there a proper phrasing for using Hey Spotify to select one of my playlists? That was all I really wanted to know. How to say it properly to get the intended result.

Thanks
