How to get a wireless Bluetooth keyboard to type into android tv app

I have a Sony android tv with the Spotify android app. I also use a wireless Bluetooth keyboard as a remote. I am able to navigate and type with the keyboard with all apps except Spotify. Navigation keys work fine but I cannot type into the seach bar.

It is odd that this only happens from the Spotify app. First up, make sure both the OS on the TV and the Spotify app are updated. You could also try reinstalling the app on the TV to check if that makes a difference. 
 
If nothing helps, would it be possible for you to try with a different Bluetooth keyboard?

TV is up to date with its firmware.

Spotify app is up to date (even uninstall andbre installed) cleared cache.

Tried with multiple wireless keyboards, Bluetooth and with the dongle, wired keyboards. 

The only way to type in the Spotify search app is with the native tv remote or if I'm using the Google home app with the tv.
