Can't open spotify

Solved!

Can't open spotify

Plan

Premium

Country

Germany

Device

Xiamoni Mi Note 10 Lite

Operating System

Android 10

My Question or Issue

I can't open the Spotify App, it just shows the logo for a few seconds, then closes and gives me the error "Spotify keeps Stopping". I have tried pretty much everything except for a factory reset:

Clean Reinstall
Restarting my phone

Clearing the cache and all data
Enabling all Permissions
Deactivating Battery Saver for the App

I even logged out of all devices

Nothing would help. I even tried to google the error code but that also doesn't really help. Here's the error code if it helps:spotify_error.jpeg

Hey @luielvi,

Thanks for testing it out and getting back to us.

As we haven’t seen any similar posts about this, we feel this is most likely isolated to your device or specific setup. To that end we recommend that you perform a factory reset of your phone. We understand how this can cause some inconvenience but it should resolve the issue, given that your account doesn't display the same behavior on other devices.

Hope this helps. Keep us posted on your progress.

I have the same problem when I try to use the SD-Card as default storage.

I select the SD-Card as storage, Spotify is starting to copy my files and when it's done, it restarts the app for a second, then the app crashes and I'm not able to start it again.

It just works manually if I delete all data of the app OR delete the ".tag"-file in the internal storage of the Spotify-Folder.

After that the app is working again, but the default storage is set back to my device, not the SD-Card.

I'm using a Xiaomi Redmi Note 8T.

Error 2.jpg

I am not using an SD-Card, maybe it's an issue with xiaomi then? Everything worked fine this morning, I wonder what happened.

Or maybe it's because of something in Germany? Since it happened so far only to us 2 Germans.

In my chase, the SD-card-thing, it looks like it has to do with spotify starting faster than the SD-card and because of that it doesn't recognize the SD-card as a storage. That is a problem since the last ~five years, as far as I've read.
So yeah, it looks like it might be a Xiaomi problem, maybe the last android-update changed something.

But in my case it is a Samuns S8. It is the same behaviour. Seeing the logo and than the app crashes. Tried other things like deactivating smart lock etc. but nothing works.

Please stay tuned. The new stable version, fixing a problem, will be available pretty soon.

Hey there folks,

Thank you for your posts in this thread. We're sorry to hear that you experience this.

Can you try the following:

  • Soft reset of the device
  • Ensure the operating system is up-to-date
  • Ensure device has enough storage space
  • Another internet connection

Keep us posted. We're always one reply away.

Cheers!

Live, love, laugh and listen to music 🙂

Thank you for the reply, I have tried all of those suggestions, for the "another internet connection" I tried using mobile data instead, but that also didn't help.

Is there anything else I can try?

Thanks for your reply. But nothing works. It is still the same.

Hi folks!

Thanks for keeping us in the loop.

@luielvi, could you let us know if this only happens on your phone or on another device too?

@TheMusician, would you mind letting us know if you're using an SD card? Additionallyare you using any cache-clearing apps?

Also - can you check if there's any pending update for the OS of your devices?

Cheers - We'll keep an eye out for your reply!

I am only using my PC as other device and spotify works there just fine.

As for the OS, I am using MIUI Global 12.0.2 Stable, which I believe is the most recent version.

Hello Eni,

there is an SD card installed. However, if I remember correctly, the memory configured is the device memory.

At least consciously I have not installed a cache cleaner. For cleanup I use the device maintenance. Furthermore, Avast is installed. This combination had worked well so far.

Recently, I installed a device update. Since then, no update has come from Samsung. After that, Spotify also worked. Spotify worked fine until December 7. When I wanted to listen to music again on December 12, Spotify stopped working.

I hope that this helps you.

Hey again folks,

Thanks for your quick reply.

@luielvi, could you let us know how much storage space does your device have available? We'd also like to know if this started happening after a specific event such as an update either of your OS or Spotify.

@TheMusician, could you try taking out your SD card and run a clean reinstall of the app without it? Do you still encounter the same issue?

We'll be waiting for your reply 🙂

Hello Eni,

Your hint about the memory card was correct. I removed the memory card. After that I started Spotify and it worked again as usual. After I put the memory card back in, Spotify continues to work correctly.

His/her problem seems to be different. Therefore, this issue is solved only for me.

Thank you and best regards

My Phone has about 80 GB of free storage, I do not remember seeing any update info that day. At 2 or 3 AM spotify worked and then at about 5 PM when I tried to open the app again, it stopped working.

Hey again @luielvi,

Thank you for your reply and confirmation.

Can you let us know which version of the app you have?

Cheers!

In the App Information it says Version 8.5.90.15

Thanks for all your help.

Hey @luielvi,

Thanks for getting back to us.

Just to confirm that we're on the same page - are you downloading the Spotify app from the Google Play store? Note that if the app was installed from an unofficial source such issues might come up.

Could you also please confirm that you're not part of the alpha/beta testing program? If you are, you can follow the steps a bit further down here on how to report the issue.

If you could try and log in with your account on another Android device and see if you can replicate the behavior there, that would also help us get to the bottom if this.

Keep us posted, we'll keep an eye out for your reply.

Yes, I downloaded it from the Google Play Store. When I first had this problem, I was in the alpha program, however the first thing I did when the app stopped working was to redownload the normal version.

I can try to log-in to another android device later today, I will let you know what happens then.
