Music stop playing when in other apps

When I have another app open for example I'm messaging someone and the song in Spotify is finish playing it stops playing until I directly go back to Spotify to click the next song to play and I'm paying for my services. I'm seriously contemplating canceling my subscription because if I wanted an app that works like this I would go on YouTube . I come on Spotify so I can hear a continuous flow of tracks
