Fair enough. Just thought I'd mention it since it's in the app description. Either way, a very frustrating problem! Weirdly, I don't get the same problem on my phone (Samsung Galaxy S2), but then again, i'm still using the old client so I can save offline tracks to the external SD. As a software developer, I find it frustrating and strange that software can go through a major version number change and lose some features, which is what seems to have happened here.

I have found a solution for this problem, or at least it works now on my HTC One V. I think this will help other HTC users as well.

You need to enable the "Best Wi-Fi performance" option. When it's on the wi-fi connection will really stay on even when the screen goes to sleep. It is weird that the actual "keep wifi on when screen is off" -setting isn't affecting Spotify, but you really need to force the connection to be active all the time by checking the "best wi-fi performance".

Was this any of assistance? I hope so 🙂

I've had this same problem spanning 3 android devices now. The Motorola Atrix 4g, Nexus 7, and an unlocked Samsung Galaxy Nexus. Spotify works fine when using the cellular network but on WiFi all three devices begin to skip once the screen turns off. The only way to combat the skipping is to keep pressing the power button to wake up screen. This is extremely annoying when using the Nexus 7 since it only runs on WiFi.

On the last three devices I've had (HTC Evo, Verison Galaxy Nexus, GSM Galaxy Nexus) my phone does the exact same thing.  If I haven't downloaded the song and am running on wifi (even with the settings set to have wifi stay on when the phone is asleep, trust me, I've checked) the song will always stop at some point.  I have to turn on the screen to get it working again.  Super annoying, and has seemingly always ben a bug in both major versions of Spotify on Android.

That just makes the phone disconnect from poor or fluctuating wifi sources, this should not keep wifi on.

I have a HTC sensation rooted with a custom JB rom and when the screen goes off the next track doesn't load, as soon as I turn the screen back on it its starts playing. I didnt have the problem with a rooted ICS rom. My "Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep" setting is "Always on".

I accidentally fixed this by running "fix permissions" with 4ext recovery and so far im upto 9 or 10 songs continuously without any problems.

This solution is only for rooted devices, I don't know if it was a problem with the app or the ROM

I'm having the same issue. Since the problem exactly resembles the orginal issue and device, I didn't want to create a new bug.

In reference to the WiFi setting, my device is set to "Keep WiFi on during sleep - Always"

Other streaming services including Google Play do not have this issue, this is a Spotify issue. If you want device logs, I can try to get them.

I took another look at the reccomendation above. It seems to have resolved the issue. I can now listen to albums and radio stations without requiring the screen to be woken up between tracks.

If you want to try it, these are the steps:

Settings > WiFi > Click the : icon in the top right corner > Advanced > Uncheck "Wi-Fi optimization"

Battery life has not suffered with any discernible capacity.

Could it be that Spotify releases its wake lock or wifi lock when switching tracks and for some reason fails to reaquire? Or perhaps there's some packet loss during this time causing the Spotify app to give up starting the next track.

Since other streaming services handles this just fine the problem is most likely in the Spotify app.

It is 100% reproducable on my Galaxy Nexus with Android 4.2.2 at least as long as the track switch occurs > 1-2 minutes after the screen went off.

I have the same problem. I had a Droid max and I bought a new Subaru impresa with touch screen/Bluetooth ect..... worked perfect for a year until I got a Samsung s7. Now my spotify will show the first album/artist ect. But it will play the next songs and it will still keep the info on the screen from the first song
I've taken spotify off, re installed everything, put my car audio back to stock settings, pulled out my fuse in my car and really started it. So freaken confused! I need to get spotify, Samsung and Verizon in the same room and say "you figure this out"! I've used Pandora and it works perfect transferring the screen to the next song but just not on Spotify. Brand new phone and I shouldn't have any issues
