My Question or Issue

For the past week, when I play a podcast on my phone, the podcast plays with no sound. Music and ads play sound with no issue. Twice the issue seems to have resolved itself briefly, but five minutes later, when I tried again, the problem returned. I have updated Spotify to the latest version, uninstalled and reinstalled the app, and restarted my phone several times.

We hope you don’t mind us replying now as we just stumbled upon this thread. Just to confirm, are you still experiencing this?

 

If so, we’d first recommend trying a thorough reinstallation of the app with the steps mentioned in this Spotify Answer instead as well as making sure that your device is up to speed with any updates.

 

If that doesn’t do the trick, it'd be helpful if you could share some details on what's happening. For example, if this is happening on any podcast episodes or just certain ones, if this occurs when using a different device or network connection etc.

 

Keep us posted! We’ll be happy to help further, just give us a shout.

I am now having the same issue from my desktop. Music plays no problem. I've tried multiple podcast and the app is not playing the audio. 

I am having this same issue with podcasts on my desktop this morning. NONE of the podcast have sound while playing, but my music plays just fine. No idea what to do.

Having the same issue on desktop, music plays but podcasts have no sound. Has to be a internal issue since others having the same complaint. 

Just encountered the same issue on the web version of Spotify, songs work just fine but podcasts play with no audio

I'm experiencing the same issue. Songs play, but there is not audio for any podcasts.

Same here. Just started a few hours ago. I was listening to a podcast and it just stopped having sound. Music and ads, everything else is just fine. Given the number of people having this issue right now, I'm assuming it's on Spotify's end?

Thanks for reaching out about this here in the Community. 

 

Just to confirm, is this only happening on the desktop app and the web player or on the mobile app as well? Also, we'd like to know if this happens when you're listening to the podcasts directly on the PC or if you're using the Connect feature/Bluetooth.

 

On another note, we suggest that you try logging out and then logging back in twice in a row to see if it makes the difference. 

 

Additionally, could you try with a different internet connection, for example creating a hotspot on your phone and using that? 

 

If you're still experiencing this issue after following those steps, would you mind providing us with the following info:

 

  • Your device and OS version, browser version (if you're using the web player)
  • The exact Spotify version running on that device 
  • The additional troubleshooting steps you've tried

We'll be on the lookout.

I'm experiencing exactly the same right now. Music no problem, but any podcast won't play. I tried uninstall, logging out etc. Does not work

Thank you for your reply and for the troubleshooting you've done so far!

 

If you have an SD card we suggest that you uninstall the app > turn off your phone > take out your SD card > turn on the phone again (without the SD card) > reinstall the app since the card can be corrupted.

 

As @Eni mentioned above - can you let us know if this occurs while you're using connect or Bluetooth?

 

It would also be great if you can let us know if the issue happens on one specific device or multiple devices.

Same issue is occurring for me as of today (30/08/2022)
The open.spotify.com website on both Edge and Chrome plays songs normally but EVERY podcast is silent.
The mobile app is working fine, so I'm currently listening to my podcasts through my mobile as a workaround.

I've closed/reopened the browsers, and made sure they're updated to latest versions.
I've signed out of the site and back in as well, but the fact that songs play normally and this is ONLY affecting podcasts within two different browsers, AND the mobile app is working normally for both songs AND podcasts suggests this isn't an account, browser or app issue and it's an issue with the open.spotify.com websites playback of podcasts.

 

Windows 11 (21H2): Edge (Version 104.0.1293.63) and Chrome (Version 104.0.5112.102) - silent podcasts
Mobile Spotify App (version 8.6.32.925) - works fine

Having the same issue.  Spotify web player on the open.spotify.com site will play music normally, however, there is no audio from podcasts.  Does appear to work from the mobile app.

 

Chrome (Version 104.0.5112.102)

Mobile (Version 8.7.60.434 [iOS])

 

 

Music plays perfectly normal, but there is no sound to podcasts. I use a chrome browser on a PC, and have logged out and back in multiple times. I don't have the desktop app (and don't want to install this on a work computer). 

Same! Chrome browser/PC. Restarted computer, logged out/in but nothing helps.

Exact same issues as described above.  My workaround is to listen on my phone (through the Spotify App) so I can hear podcasts. 

On my desktop, using Chrome, no sound on podcasts.  The issue started today after listening to a podcast on my phone (through the app) last night.  Now, using Chrome web browser, no sound on the podcasts.  I can even see the podcasts when I choose to show the conversation in the mode of captioning to see the words of what is being said.  Definitively a feature of the spotify web browser interface - it can't be anything else.  Again, Spotify app on my phone, works fine and it's my workaround..

I am also having the exact issue with my browser starting today. Music plays fine but no podcasts. However, I downloaded the app onto my computer and now the podcasts will play, but on the app, so it seems to be a browser issue only. I am using google chrome. 

Having the same issue on desktop web player. Tried Edge & Firefox which is what I usually use. Neither will play podcast audio, only music. Started today. windows 10.

Received email today Re: No sound in podcasts (The Spotify Community Subscription Update), 
So I go check out Spotify podcast and yep, same issue again!
Last time sound issue automatedly came back after 24 hrs.
