My Question or Issue
Recently, I have been unable to swipe away the Spotify controls notification once I'm done listening. It'll just move over to show the notifications options button. The only way to get rid of the controls notification is to close the app or let Android put the app to sleep after 10-30 mins. This is very annoying as with the Android 11 update, I can only see one notification on my lock screen at a time, and Spotify always takes priority, even if I'm not listening to anything. I have to unlock my phone, scroll over on the multitasking menu, and close the app to dismiss the notification.
Every music app I use either lets me swipe away the controls notification, or gives me the option to close it from the notification. I feel like this must be a bug, but can't resolve the issue or find anyone else with the problem. I've tried deleting cache/data, uninstalling and reinstalling, changing various notification options, but nothing helps.
Hey there @Dantpool,
Thanks for the reply and for the video recording! We've gone ahead and passed this info to the right team.
We can't provide you with a timeframe in which this will get addressed but we'll let you know as soon as we have an update on the topic.
If anything else comes up in the meantime, the Community will be here for you.
Why bother with these posts this has been going on for pretty much the start of this year, and it's clearly obvious Spotify is not going to fix this so do I what I did left Spotify and I am using another service,
Same issue here. Very annoying.
This thing is so annoying. Last night, I turned off both the music and wifi and this morning I find the damn notification is still up
Is this seriously how the app is suppose to work?? How is this an improvement?? Swiping away the notification worked just fine, come on
Am I the only one that doesn't have this problem anymore after removing battery optimizations?
Maybe. It didn't do anything for me
Yep, they know exactly what they are doing. It's pathetic that they respond and act like they can't replicate the problem and that they have no idea that it's happening.
I reallly like how the problem is still persistent to this day. I updated my phone because ive been delaying it and some apps started to not function but the moment i do this error occurs where a song notification is constantly up. If i have a song playing it's right next to the one im listening.
For me it was the opposite. I changes Spotify to restricted battery optimizations and it worked! I'm now able to swipe the notification when I pause the music.
Thanks to the comment above I decided to look into my Spotify battery settings. I turned on "Optimize battery usage" and turned off "Allow background activity." I am now able to swipe away notification controls.
I attached an image of my settings to get this working properly again. Using a Galaxy S8+ with Android 9.
(Running Android 10, latest Spotify version)
After listening to Spotify the lock screen does not go away and the pop up notification also does not go away.
Is this a bug or is there a setting to switch it off? Right now, I have to manually force the Spotify app to stop.
This issue irritates me, as it does others. The response from mods, who presumably have some connection with Spotify, is pathetic. Coming back every once in a blue moon to ask for versions etc shows a lack of interest that makes you wonder why they bother, other than maybe to make it look like someone cares. They don't, it seems.
Having to go into recent apps and force stop works, but it shouldn't be necessary.
Maybe Spotify should either fix it, or tell us it has no intention of doing so and we can make the decision about whether to continue paying for something that isn't interested in the user experience?
Hey there folks,
This should now be fixed within the latest update. Can you let u know if you still got this issue?
If you do, kindly let us know which version of the app you're having.
We'll keep an eye out for your reply.
Take care!
Finally.
After almost 5 months you finally fixed it. Can we know how this bug formed in the first place?
I actually feel so relieved but I must say you didn't bother really fixing the situation for nigh on half a year.
Freshly updated Spotify, version 8.7.68.568, MIUI 13 Android 12, the issue is still there.
Thank you! Finally works for me.
Samsung Note 9 Android 10, Spotify 8.7.66.534

Just updated to 8.7.68.568 on Android 12, and the issue is still there. I deleted all cache/data, reinstalled, and it still won't let me swipe away the notification.
Well, I'll be damned. It works!
THANK YOU
