My Question or Issue
If I launch my music through the phone (e.g. open Spotify app and push play) then the pause / play touch control on the buds works.
However, if I launch Spotify through Google Assistant (e.g. "Hey Google, play Spotify"), then the play / pause touch control does not work properly and only pauses for 1 second and then starts playing again.

@Dleaver, the issue now seems to be gone. Even though I reinstalled the app multiple times before I followed the below instructions that Support provided yesterday and it seems to work. However, an app update was also released yesterday (8.8.14.575) which may have been what fixed the problem
1. Go to your phone’s Settings.
2. Select Apps.
3. Select Spotify from the list of apps.
4. Tap Storage / Storage & cache memory.
5. Find and tap Clear storage and Clear cache.
6. Return to the previous screen and tap Uninstall.
7. In the phone's Files (or File Manager, My Files, etc) app:
> Go to Internal Storage>Android>data. If you see a com.spotify.music folder, delete it.
> If you’re using an SD card, go to SD Card>Android>data. If you see a com.spotify.music folder, delete it.
8. Restart your device.
9. Go to Google Play and install the Spotify app.
Hey @MissedAlarm-LostJob,
Thank you for reaching out here in the Community.
First off, we'd recommend that you restart your devices to see if that'll make a difference.
It's also a good idea to try reconnecting your Google Pixel Buds and your mobile device.
Lastly, it's worth checking if the same happens while using a different account. If a family member has a Spotify account, could you try ask them to log in on your device and connect it to Google Assistant to see if they'll experience the same? You have the option to add multiple accounts to your Google device but don't forget to to unlink it after you test in order to avoid any confusion in the future.
In case the app behaves the same way with another account, we'd encourage you to contact the manufacturer for further assistance as this might be related to the Google Assistant.

Hope this helps. Let us know how you get on.
Hi Lyubka. Thanks for your response. Unfortunately I've tried all those solutions including factory resetting the pixel buds but it does not work. This doesn't happen with other music streaming services such as YT Music, only Spotify.
I'm having the exact same issue with my pixel 6a ! Very disappointing as I have only just bought these as a replacement for another brand that didn't have this issue.
