Playback device automatically switched from Echo to Bluetooth when skipping track using Android Wear

While listening on my Amazon Echo I discovered if I opened Spotify on my Note 4, I could then see the status and remote control the Echo using the media controller on my Sony Smartwatch 3(SWR50), which is very useful when I'm buzzing around the house.  

The issue I've uncovered is when my bluetooth headset is connected(and ON) and I tap ">|" on my watch to skip to the next song, the next song begins playing through my bluetooth headset and stops playing on the Echo.  I think it shouldn't automatically switch the playback device unless explicitly selected via the phone or desktop app.

In the spirit of full disclosure, the same bluetooth device is paired to both phone and watch(to allow for local playback via Google Play Music) if that could have anything to do with it.
