Spotify has always been buggy with chromecast.
- It looses connection
- Often can't adjust volume without reconnecting to the chromecast. Or you must use the Google Home app.
- You must force close the app to discover cast devices when you come back home
- Spotify often shows a different song under "now playing" than what's actually being played
- Can't adjust volume if connected to a group of chromecasts. Workaround is using the Google Home app, but this is awfully cumbersome
I have never seen a changelog where you tell anything specific about fixing chromecast connectivity.
Do you ever update the Google Cast API? Have you (developers) tried Spotify with casting devices yourself? Can you honestly say that "yeah, everythings fine"? The biggest music streaming service in the world should not settle with the stability and performance of the chromecast support before it is as good or better than the Google Music app.
I think I'm not the only customer who'd wish for a less buggy experience using Spotify with casting devices.
Solved! Go to Solution.
After many hours with testing, here is what solved this problem for me. I have 4 devices IP5, IP7, Ipad2, pc, and 1 cca and 1 cc2. I have 3 other family members with their own devices Samsung S7, IP5s and IP7. My problem has only to do with the login account I am using. My login has the same problem on all devices. All other family mebers works on their and my devices. My login does not work on their or my devices. My Pinell radio with Spotify connect works fine thow. So I just created a new login and now it works fine. So Spotify, what is wrong with my login? My login is the family manager.
Update on my solution.
I think part of my problem is that I have two wireless systems in my house but both have the same name. My phone and other wireless devices have no trouble seemlessly moving/switching from one system to another but Chromecast does not recognize my device when I move to a diffierent wireless. However, even when I leave my phone near the chromecast so I know it is connected to the same wireless, it still drops off when playing spotify. So I gave up on Chromecast and downloaded spotify on my PS3 which is also hooked up to my stereo system. Problem solved. Bottom line, I would definitely not recommend chromecast and especially spotify on chromecast.
my chromecast said error when I tried to open Spotify and then just kicked me to the home screen
Expecting a solution for years now...
Hopefully Google Play Music does not have this issue...
This is so annoying. It seems completely random whether Spotify will cast. I use HiFiCast to play my music from as NAS and this works everything. So I conclude this is a Spotify problem. Please guys fix this asap.
Frigging **bleep**, this is this getting annoying. All of a sudden, Spotify won't play audio through my Chromecast anymore 9 out of 10 times. It does find the device and connect to it (I get the bleeping sound) but then nothing. Sometimes (after several tries and/or force closing the app) the audio starts to play, but then the app get unresponsive: I can't fast forward / rewind / skip songs / pause etc.
Other sound apps that I use on my phone (Moto G5+) work fine with my Chromecast. I tried it with my Chromebook: it works perfectly. It is a problem only occuring with Spotify.
I've got the same problem for ~ 1 year. Can You resolve that problem, I thing it is long enough...
I previously posted that I had this issue. I tweeted @SpotifyCares with my Chromecast issue and they replied quickly. After some troubleshooting and information gathering, they had me fixed up within 24 hours. I don't know what they did to fix it, but it has been working fine ever since.
Send them a DM and I wish you the same luck I had! 🙂
I have been struggling with this for a couple years with chormecas audio. It seems to work OK for a little bit then it gets bad again. It has gotten really bad lately and I can't cast at all even after rebooting everything. Google music is perfect every time for casting but I don't like the radio as much. I signed up for google again after dropping it 6 months ago when spotify seemed to work again. Googles functionality is much better I just hope their music matches. So far pretty good if it keeps it up I am done with spotify.
Been a Spotify subscriber for almost 3 years now and Chromecast has ALWAYS been practically broken. I frequently experience all of OP's listed problems on a Nexus 5X (a google phone should have no problem with chromecast).
Spotify is the ONLY chromecast app I use that is so buggy. Everything else works seamlessly but Spotify is often unusable.
I wonder why I even remain a paying customer if something so basic has been broken for so long.
2018-03-08 connect to chromecast audio but no music in speakers. Song restart 3-4times then show it is playing but no sound. Can hear the volume beep from chromecast changing volume +/-.
Have found several persons with same problem started 2018-03-06. Please fix it!!!
Same issue here for 2 days, tried resetting, updating, reinstalling, nothing works, major bug needs fixing please !
Same here!
I have had this problem at least 1 year. It is unacceptable that a company like Spotify have not got this problem fixed yet.
Google Play Music works perfectly with chromecast audio.
Spotify please fix this.
After a lot of trial and error, resetting by router, reinstalling Spotify many times, it became clear that the problem was a corrupted Spotify account. I set up a new account with help from Spotify and the problem went away. Now works like a treat.
I've been dealing with several issues when using chromecast and spotify, too. When I connect using my android phone i'm not being able to skip to the next song or rearrange the playlist and things like that. It has always been a bad experience, but lately it's been worse.
Same here.
Chiming in, same problems here. Please fix this, before I switch to a different streaming service.
Becuse of that problem I am loking for new streaming service. I am waiting til the and of March. I heard that is no problems with other streaming services, so it is no worth to pay for service with problem like that.
Hi, thanks for taking time to provide some more details on possible solution. I have configured my router according to your post. Unfortunately it made no difference to issue I am (or actually we all are) facing. On top of that I have absolutely zero issues with other network apps or services, it's really only Spotify streaming to Chromecast.
@PAPPL wrote:My Chromecast Audio devices had major problems when streaming in a group.
One of two stayed most of the time in standby, or suddenly disappered from devices cast list.
Disabled "Airtime fairness" in my routers WLAN settings, and now my chromecast problems are gone.
Be sure to have these router settings enabled:
Multicast, Internet Group Management Protocol (IGMP), IGMP snooping
Optional enabled: Universal Plug and Play (UPnP)
Be sure to have these router settings disabled::
AP/client isolation, proxy servers, IGMP Proxy, virtual private networks (VPNs)
