Spotify has always been buggy with chromecast.
- It looses connection
- Often can't adjust volume without reconnecting to the chromecast. Or you must use the Google Home app.
- You must force close the app to discover cast devices when you come back home
- Spotify often shows a different song under "now playing" than what's actually being played
- Can't adjust volume if connected to a group of chromecasts. Workaround is using the Google Home app, but this is awfully cumbersome
I have never seen a changelog where you tell anything specific about fixing chromecast connectivity.
Do you ever update the Google Cast API? Have you (developers) tried Spotify with casting devices yourself? Can you honestly say that "yeah, everythings fine"? The biggest music streaming service in the world should not settle with the stability and performance of the chromecast support before it is as good or better than the Google Music app.
I think I'm not the only customer who'd wish for a less buggy experience using Spotify with casting devices.

Sorry, but I don't believe it can be related to account... Just look at how many different people are reporting same issue over and over. Do you think they all have corrupted accounts? And what the **bleep** is a "corrupted Spotify account" in the first place? 😉 Don't take my post personally but this is weird and unlikely. 🙂
@Dominica4 wrote:After a lot of trial and error, resetting by router, reinstalling Spotify many times, it became clear that the problem was a corrupted Spotify account. I set up a new account with help from Spotify and the problem went away. Now works like a treat.
We are all complaining, but no reaction from Spotify what so ever. What should be our next step? Because complaining here won't change a thing!
I agree with you. It seems Spotify does not give a **bleep** about fixing this issue. I believe there is just not enough pressure and we alone here is not sufficient to push them enough. I think we could try and bring it to attention of wider public. We could report it to digital media, preferably technical portals and news sites etc. This could help widespread the news "Spotify has major issue with Chromecast for years and doesn't bother fixing it" and gather more supporters / interest. I think important point here is that people do actually quit Spotify Premium and move away to other streaming services.
Absurd that we haven't gotten any word from Spotify, as we (or at least I) am a premium paying customer. Spotify, where is your sense of customer care? Are you really this arrogant? Your customers need you to at least acknowledge or reply on this problem!
I totally agree. People here have connections with the media? Maybe we can start a campaign on social media? We have to do something because Spotify is clearly not and never listening!
Spotify, you really want to have bad press? It is ridiculous how you treat paying customers! Shame on you!

Boah, I complain now since only a bit more than a week for my beloved Pioneer N-50A I bought for good money 4 months ago and becoz it brings Spotify Connect built-in - now it's gone an neither Spotify nor Pioneer are giving the slightes answer, just my reseller and distro is willing to help me out somehow.
I come into this thread since was proposed to try Chromecast as a workaround ... now I see what is said here and understand it's a wider problem Spotify has ... whoa, that is frustrating. After havinge paid for years iTunes, now Spotify Premium familly pack and paid twice a brand new streaming machine to Pioneer to get just no help at all (and the machine is under guarantee) I stop believing into the streaming services, too volatile to put all your money, time and nerves into it. Ok I pack out my old and beloved CD/Vynil collection, still have good gears to play them. Good luck.
Well, since there's still no word from Support, I have taken the step to cancel my premium account. I switched to deezer as of now, which seems to work like a champ, also with my chromecast audio.
As stated in my survey as to why I quit , by the time Spotify starts to take premium members seriously, i might return.
Good luck to all of you, and shame on you, Spotify.
All respect for your move, we shall all do that or at least a majority.
It's just too easy and not so cool to ask folks keep paying and needing to change the client every 2-4 years especially if the client is costly (as it's in my case) and on top of all that has the possibility to be updated via firmware upgrade but that is simply not provided by the client device constructor since he wants you buying his latest version of the device. Now shall the marketing dep. of such a client device want to keep this kind of politics, then they have to provide at least the source code of their firmware - in my case a lot of OSS is in my firmware - then you can add your stuff and community will take care of this but Spotify won't enter this since it has a certification programm in place to make money on this as well ...
How long did you wait on an asnwer from Spotify?
Good luck to you as well
I found that the free account works just fine with Chromcast. It's my paid account where there is an issue. I too will be canceling my paid subscription until this is resolved.
For the last month we had problems with Spotify on chromecast.
In the past we had no problems what so ever..
Now when casting music stops, then starts, stops, start etc.
Tried factory reset, we stream from 2 different phones (S7 /z5 premium), 2 separate Accounts.. Same error...
Like I said everything worked fine in the past, problems startet about a month ago... ...........
This is a real frustration. I have a number of Google Cast devices throughout my home and I simply can't use them with Spotify. Tidal Cast support is now working for me. SoundCloud too, but as a Spotify family membership subscriber and long term user of the service I am fast approaching the conclusion that I don't need Spotify if I can't access my music at home via my cast devices.
Please put some engineering resource into this important feature.
Yeah this is clearly an issue with Google Home (chromecast) and the Spotify player.
After a few months of issues its very clear this is a conflict between the two apps, and its reaching a point where I am ready to give up on Spotify. Been a paid member since the beginning and yet they are not addressing these issues, or did I miss a tweet or?
What other music streaming sites do you recommend, I think its time to cancel for me as well.
Guys, we must start working together to win this!
I don't have much time, but still I have managed to sent "tips" to few tech sites (PhoneArena, GSMArena, Gizmodo, TheVerge), so possibly they can write a story about this.
Please, if you have at least few minutes, find some well-known technical site and tip them about this ridiculous issue!
Thanks!
Here is what I am doing. I am using the soundiiz.com website to take all my Spotify playlists and convert them to Tidal playlists.
This takes the pain away for me transitioning from Spotify.
This is free if your playlists contain less than 200 tracks
**bleep** TY Sheriff! That was the only thing holding me back at all, bye bye spotify.
I like to run the numbers anytime a company is not responsive, it gives me an idea of whether or not there is any hope.
