My Question or Issue
I have a playlist with a series of albums that play through in-order because there's a story. There are roughly 100 songs in the playlist, and I do have the playlist downloaded to save on mobile data. If I start playing the playlist and look at the queue, it shows the normal 80 songs you would expect.
However, spotify can seldom play all the way through the playlist because it will randomly cut off the queue to only 4 or 5 songs. This tiny segment of the playlist will play and then the music will stop (or switch to [artist] radio). There is no indication that this is happening until the music stops.
I figured out what was happening when I turned on repeat. Once the queue gets cut off, spotify will repeat those 4-5 songs only. If I skip to the previous song, it will skip "backwards" to the last song on the queue, as if I had built a tiny playlist.
It tends to happen most often when I am connected to my car or my JBL Flip 5 via bluetooth. I can sometimes induce this error by skipping a song with the forward button, or restarting a song with the back button.
I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling a clean app according to the instructions I've seen linked on so many other questions, but the problem still occurs. Given the absolute clownshoes design of spotify's queue in general, is this somehow just the intended behavior of spotify's queue, or some feature that I'm just using wrong?
Hey folks!
Sorry to see this is still ongoing.
We are going to try to prioritize this investigation in the hopes that we can finally get to the root cause and fix the issue.
If you haven't already, please let us know the following details:
Many thanks in advance. We'll do our best to get to the bottom of this asap.
This is also happening for me. It's driving me crazy as I have to pick up my phone, open the album and select a track outside of the loop to resolve....this is a problem as I listen to Spotify while I drive as I work on the road, and I happen to live in a country with tens of thousands of roadside mobile phone detection cameras that will issue me a $600 fine and take half my licence away if I happen to be holding my phone trying to fix this issue while driving past one!!!!
OnePlus 8. Up to date Android. Up to date Spotify. It's been happening for months on various different albums and playlists
I've made it better in a way I'm sure spotify won't like... I went and found a dmg of the final 1.0.x version for macos and an apk of the final 8.4.x version for android and they're working great together, just like I need. The "home" screen totally doesn't work on android, but I don't consider that a drawback. I can get to my playlists, can search for songs and browse music normally and playing works great with each device picking up playing where the other left off and no weird looping or truncation.
So rollback to the stone age is the only solution so far. Insert laughing emoji. How’s the security on those. Any view on how long this will take to get fixed Spotify team?
This is still happening. Today, for example, I press shuffle play on a playlist this morning. It’s fine for a while but then it starts to repeat bunches of songs in the same order that they were played earlier in the day.
Please don’t advise me to reinstall the app as that is starting to sound like lazy advice.
The shuffle function is a major reason I love(d) Spotify. On iTunes shuffle will play an entire playlist with no repeats, which I’d imagine is what most people would expect. Why can’t Spotify do this? I wonder whether you’ve tinkered with Shuffle to the point of breaking it.
As I’ve heard some songs today about 5 times (on a 1700+ track playlist) I think the only way around this now is to reshuffle rather than pause/play every time I stop the music. But I shouldn’t have to do this.
Hey everyone,
No updates at this time, I'm afraid: this is still being looked into. While we can't say how long a fix would take, rest assured we'll keep you folks posted whenever we have any new info to share, so stay tuned!
The Community is always here if something else comes up in the meantime.
Take care.
It just started doing this on my Android phone about a week ago. At first I thought it had just made its own playlist based on my playlist. it does that way too often, but then I looked and there were five or six tracks out of my playlist. I have had to back out to where I choose the playlist, find the track I want to continue on and it will show my entire playlist, but then after a short while, its now looping a different 5 or 6 tracks. UGH!
Hi folks,
Thanks for the posts.
Our teams are still working on this. In order to get a better understanding what's causing the issue can you please provide us with the following info:
Cheers.
I can confirm that this bug is still happening.
I am on a Samsung S22 Ultra.
Happened this morning at 8:37 AM Central time.
I was listening to the 'Anime Now' mix suggested by Spotify with 4 hours and 40 minutes of music.
I was listening to it during my morning routine and it was going through fine (I got through about 6 songs). As soon as I got in my car to go to work and connected to bluetooth, it started looping the top 4 songs.
The screen capture videos I posted a on page 3 contain the date and time of the videos (most of them do at least). I am in US Central time zone.
I also only get 5 songs looping. Even Spotify curated Playlists (i.e. daily mix 4) do it. Both my old phone and my new phone (part of why I bought the new phone) do it. I only really listen while driving so this only happens while Bluetooth connected to my car.
Same for me. Same 5 songs. If I skip to another song outside of those 5, it then plays another loop with the following 5 songs. This has been going on for a while. Did clean reinstall, did not fix.

Spotify 8.7.86.422
I’ve thought of yet another way to explain this ongoing problem. This morning I press play/shuffle on a playlist and enjoy a morning of no repeats. I’m listening on an iPhone connected by Bluetooth to a Bose speaker by the way.
After lunch I open Spotify ready to unpause and it’s back at the beginning of the series of songs. I then skip through the list of songs I’ve already heard to get to where I was. It’s like the app has forgotten what it has already played. A small problem in the scheme of things but an irritating problem that I didn’t used to have.
I have the same issue with my spotify. I've tried leaving the app running in the background and several other things to no avail. I have just updated my phone to a new one so it's a fresh install etc and the problem still remains
Same issue, Started about 1-2 weeks ago. V8.7.90.544
More information. Could it be something to do with the Queue.
I mostly listen without internet connection. All my playlists are downloaded.
Spotify V8.7.90.544
Moto G30 Android 12.
As per images:
The queue shows (Jist) which is not in this playlist??
What happens when the Queue hits a song that has not been downloaded?
Does it restart the Queue? Thereby repeating the songs.
Hey folks,
Thanks for providing those details.
Can you please make sure to include the date and time of day the issue occurred along with your time zone (as requested by @Alex above), so we can forward this info to the relevant team?
Cheers!
Hi, timezone UK. 13/12 19:04
Sort this out Spotify. This along with the nonsense that is the daily mixes never updating is making Spotify an expensive and pointless service. Too many excuses, asking for more information and delaying tactics. It’s your software. You fix it.
