My Question or Issue
I have a playlist with a series of albums that play through in-order because there's a story. There are roughly 100 songs in the playlist, and I do have the playlist downloaded to save on mobile data. If I start playing the playlist and look at the queue, it shows the normal 80 songs you would expect.
However, spotify can seldom play all the way through the playlist because it will randomly cut off the queue to only 4 or 5 songs. This tiny segment of the playlist will play and then the music will stop (or switch to [artist] radio). There is no indication that this is happening until the music stops.
I figured out what was happening when I turned on repeat. Once the queue gets cut off, spotify will repeat those 4-5 songs only. If I skip to the previous song, it will skip "backwards" to the last song on the queue, as if I had built a tiny playlist.
It tends to happen most often when I am connected to my car or my JBL Flip 5 via bluetooth. I can sometimes induce this error by skipping a song with the forward button, or restarting a song with the back button.
I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling a clean app according to the instructions I've seen linked on so many other questions, but the problem still occurs. Given the absolute clownshoes design of spotify's queue in general, is this somehow just the intended behavior of spotify's queue, or some feature that I'm just using wrong?
Hey folks!
Sorry to see this is still ongoing.
We are going to try to prioritize this investigation in the hopes that we can finally get to the root cause and fix the issue.
If you haven't already, please let us know the following details:
Many thanks in advance. We'll do our best to get to the bottom of this asap.
When playing in Chrome and controlling via iOS app, Spotify cycles through the same 5 songs on a 50 song playlist. every. single. time. BUGGY AF!
soooo annoying, always have to micromanage this thing, going to switch back to apple music
Chiming in that I started experiencing this issue today. I'm trying to listen to a 4.5 hr playlist on shuffle, but the same 2 or 3 songs keep repeating. Sometimes it also stops playing after a round of repeats. The queue shows a shuffled list of upcoming so gs with no repeats, as expected, but the repeats occur anyway.
I'm streaming from the Spotify app on a Samsung S21 to a Google Nest Mini.
Its not just me!! Same here, but repeats when NOT in shuffle.
Hi i have made a few playlists for work and recently on ios it’s started repeating songs usually 2 that would play in a row and just keeps doing it repeating the songs sometimes 5 times each but even if i go down and remove the extras another 2 songs start doing it meaning i cant just leave the playlist on while i work im wondering if there is a solution to this
thanks
I have a 78 hour playlist that repeats the first 2 songs that shuffles. While I try to go and remove them from the queue, they just reappear anyway.
It goes back and forth between those 2 songs a few times before it moves on to another song.
Same here. I’ve tried all the usual uninstall/reinstall tricks, but playlists keep returning to first song. So infuriating.
Hey @redandblue1978,
Thanks for your reply.
In this case, would you mind sharing with us the details @Alex and @MihailY asked for above? That way our tech team would have a better appreciation of what you're experiencing. Rest assured this is being investigated.
Keep us in the loop!
EXACT same thing is happening to me….
im literally WATCHING the queued songs… and it’s going against what it says it should be doing.
for example;
PLAYING; song A
queued:
song B
song C
song D
Song E
SONG A finishes playing
SONG B starts
queue now looks as follows:
song A
song B
song C
song D
Song E
i even went so far as to hit shuffle, unshuffle, shuffle, unshuffle…..
and it kept SONG A at the top of the queue list no matter what!
this is BEYOND frustrating - I actually can’t use your services basic function that we pay for.
PHONE; iPhone pro 13 max
iOS: 16.1.1
SPOTIFY: app is up to date
STREAMING: to Alexa Echo Dot
It does the same thing to me too! I'm sorry you're experiencing this too. But I'm glad I'm not alone
Update
i have since realised it on ios when you play a playlist it only shows a set number of songs before it loads more and this repeating is usually the 2 bottom songs on the list before more songs are shown
Hey folks,
Thanks for your reports.
Keep in mind that the exact info we currently need is:
Make sure to send these in your next reply if you haven't already. This way we can continue to look into this issue.
Thanks again!
Just wanted to report I had a successful day of listening to a Playlist all the way through today. 😊
I'll definitely update if it starts to happen again, but wanted to share a positive 👍
I also did! Was surprised last night when the bug wasn't happening... maybe something was fixed?
Hi novy
With the problem im experiencing it can happen anytime and on pretty much every playlist i listen too but it only seems to be playlists never on albums or if i play a specific artist. It 1st started around 8 weeks ago and did it on the odd occasion now it’s nearly everytime
Hi Novy. You're asking for dates and times this has happened. If this means Spotify has enough logging to show which songs have been queued in the app, this issue should already be simple to track down.
I can tell you it happens to me almost daily. From what I've observed it's usually triggered when I've been listening to a playlist on my Google Home device and then go out in my car and Spotify there takes over via playing on Bluetooth from my Android phone.
Most recent date would be yesterday, Pacific timezone around maybe 3pm.
But seriously this is such an obvious issue and so easy to reproduce that I'm shocked Spotify can't figure it out.
It's simple. If you're in a playlist of 100 songs and suddenly the queue is 5 songs long but you're only on song 20 of the playlist, that's clearly wrong. Playlists and queues should be 100% bulletproof; without working playlist functionality you don't have a functioning music app!
I will add that the only way to get Spotify working again is to unlock the phone and re-select my position in the playlist. Not ideal if I'm driving!
Hey folks,
Thanks for all your replies and for all the info shared.
@reszym, @retrogradial, we really appreciate you keeping us in the loop and we're really glad you've been seeing improvements. Don't hesitate to reach out if you have further questions.
@Liamhutson, we understand that this is current behavior. In this case, would you mind sending us the time zone, time of day, (if possible) and date when this happened the most? This'll help us to continue investigating further. We really appreciate all your comments.
@Pete-L, we've passed this important info to our tech team. We understand where you're coming from and we really appreciate the time you took to let us know about this. Our tech team is doing their best to understand this behavior and to find the best solution.
We'll be on the lookout folks!
Mine appears to do this after I do a couple of short trips. It just decides that I don't want to listen to the full playlist and just plays the last 4 or 5 tracks it played. Skipping forward or back just cycles through those tracks. The only way to fix it is to change to another playlist. I only use Spotify playlists, I don't have my own.

Yes, I have restarted, uninstalled and reinstalled.
