Samsung Galaxy s8

Solved!

Samsung Galaxy s8

Got my sexy new s8 on the 19th but spotify keeps shutting off during regular playing. Sometimes I can listen to music for 10 minutes... other times a half hour... a few times I got lucky and got a few hours out of it. Wondering if it's a compatibility issue... hope it can get fixed soon. Won't be fun to have to bring out my ipod just for music when my phone should do it all...

Hi there,

I'm not sure if you are still having this problem, but I'm currently facing the same issue and have noticed a few warning signs to when it will pause and when it will not. They are listed below:

1.) In the notification panel, in the very top left of the phone screen, the spotify symbol will appear if it is working just fine. However, every single time the music has paused or stopped out of nowhere, the symbol wasn't, or ever was, visible in the panel during that playback session.

2.) Any Playlist or other collection that isn't downloaded in the app will ALWAYS pause. Only downloaded or saved songs/collections will play through if there are no other problems. This really hinders my enjoyment of Daily Mixes, which cannot be downloaded.

3.) When in the spotify app, if music is started,  and the playback controls at the bottom of the screen show a "play" button instead of a "pause" button while the music is currently playing, it always ends up pausing/stopping.

4.) After a sudden disconnect from a Bluetooth device (ex: battery died, car turned off, etc)  that was being used to play music through spotify, often (but not always) the music will switch to phone speaker playback immediately. Once this happens, and the music doesn't automatically pause once disconnected, the app will inevitably start pausing/stopping playback.

Important information to be noted:

- the app has been updated twice since this started on my Galaxy S8, as well as the phone's software.

- the app has been untinstalled and reinstalled twice now, with no luck to solving the problem.

- I've only ever logged into one other device on my account, and I log out of my account on that device after each session. However, the same situation occurs here too, and the web player will pause/start on the laptop as well.

- the app is listed in the battery saving settings as 'do not monitor', and will not be put to sleep as a result.

The only solution I've encountered so far is closing all apps, and restarting the phone. This solves it every time, but only for about 24 hours. I've had to restart my galaxy every single day for the past 3 weeks because of this, but hardly twice in a day.

Hope this helps figure out the problem, or at least find out where it is coming from!

Hello @Tom_W,

Could you please share the solution so the other can also apply it?

Thanks

What finally solved the music pausing problem for me was to uninstall Rock My Run, a music app that must have been competing with Spotify & other media apps that would suddenly pause. I should have figured something was odd when the Rock My Run app would never pause, yet all my other music apps did...

So I suggest uninstalling 1 music app at a time & checking to see whether Spotify, etc pauses. I've tried all the other suggestions, power save off, background apps, factory reset, soft reset, uninstall/reinstall, etc. This finally worked, been 3 weeks now, no more pausing.

Good luck!!

Ughhhhh this is driving me crazy!! I have tried uninstalling it and installing it 4 times. Still stops!!! Please help, I'm an artist and I can't stop every other song to start it again.

I'm sure you've all checked the basics but, just in case here are some settings worth looking at:

  • Device Maintenance > Battery
  • Scroll to the bottom and tap "Unmonitored Apps". Add spotify here if it isn't already listed
  • You may want to disable Smasung's power saving modes on the battery page although I haven't found this to cause a problem with spotify if set to "Mid".

  • Wifi settings
  • Tap "advanced" at the top
  • Set "Keep wifi on during sleep" to "always"

Third party storage/battery managers should be disabled or exceptions set for spotify.

I hope this helps someone 🙂

What are third party battery storage and where do I find that. I did the
other 2 suggestions and it STILL shuts off. This is my most used App and I
can't live without it... seriously..

Hey there. I have this exact same issue. Reading through the posts by others, their problem seems to be a little different, perhaps related to logins and accounts on multiple devices.

I've noticed the issues with the Spotify symbol (top left in notification tray) and the play pause button in the app. I've also noticed that when I connect using Bluetooth in my car, I can't control Spotify unless that Spotify symbol in the notification tray is there. It's almost like Android is still closing Spotify out in the background if I haven't used it in a while. Then the next time I open spotify, it doesn't launch properly.

I've tried disabling the battery monitoring, uninstalling/reinstalling, etc. Was there anything that you found actually worked?

I'm a convert from microsoft groove. I love the music selection, playlist curation and social features of Spotify, but this Android app is frustrating! The groove app worked so much better.

I'm having the same problem with my s8+. I'll try your fix and hope it works. It's super frustrating to be on the elliptical and my music shuts down for no reason while I'm trucking along. Thanks!

Samsung also has a setting that turns off WiFi when the phone is sleeping. I fixed my Spotify by turning all power saving off and allowing WiFi to run in the background. Settings, WiFi,   advanced, keep WiFi on during sleep.

Happy listening
