Sharing via message required?

My Question or Issue

So I just encountered this sharing-via-Spotify-messages thing; do I have this right, that if I open a song or album link from a contact, it does NOT take me to the song or album, but now takes me to a chat window where I have to click on the song or album there? Introducing an unnecessary extra step? Is there a way to turn this annoying feature off?

We can confirm this is the current expected behavior for shared content from contacts. While there is no way to turn this specific step off, opting out of Spotify Messages as shown here should prevent links from opening in a chat window. Note that this would prevent you from sending/receiving messages, and others will not be able to start new chats with you.

I'm looking to file a complaint and this is the best route I've found so far.

A big part of the appeal of Spotify was that you could text song links with your friends without forcing them to sign up for anything extra. Today I went to share a song, only to find that neither of us could open the links without agreeing to use Spotify Messenger.  This is infuriating. I don't want to be forced to use a new messenger in order to keep sharing with my friends, and I'd be surprised if I'm the only one bothered by this. Sharing links was a huge part of the enjoyment for me, and now I'm thinking about moving to a different platform.
