Songs not downloading to android device when connecting to WIFI

Trying to download songs to my android HTC 1.  when i connect to my WIFI and set my settings to online mode, i recieve a message that says that songs "are waiting to download".....but nothing happens. the songs do not download. Is there anyone that can help me?

Are you referring to the Offline switch in the Spotify app settings menu? ( States : 'When you go offline, you'll only be able to....." )

This switch must be off if you want to download.

The switch is off. It's a new phone. But its not downloading. It says "waiting to download".

also it says that spoitfy is online.  i have tried uninstalling and installing the app, but no joy
