It's happening again as I type this...playing my downloaded "Liked Songs" playlist directly from the phone (no bluetooth).

I just wanted to add that I've been experiencing the exact same issues on my Pixel 6a for the past 2 months and it is extremely frustrating. For some reason it doesn't seem to happen when I'm connected to my car's audio system via Bluetooth. Only when I'm connected to BT speakers or playing directly from the phone speaker.
sorry forgot to include stats
Andoird 14
Spotify version 8.9.46.426
Same issue on Google Pixel 6A using head phones or playing directly from the phone. If the screen is active the music plays but once it goes dark it will keep pausing. This will happen after few minutes of starting Spotify.
App version 8.9.46.426
Android 14
Under Spotify app settings check if the Data Saver is set to automatic. I was having the same problem and if I select on or off I do not get the pauses anymore unless I just lucked out but it is a worth a shot.
Appreciate the suggestion. Unfortunately I already have this set to "off". Hopefully your issue is resolved.
I realized today that when my phone is plugged into usb for charging i don't have this issue, but within seconds of unplugging my phone (at full charge) it's stuttering again.
So rage-inducing. No other audio app on my phone has these issues. Only spotify.
Are we going to get a fix sometime soon from Spotify for this issue? I used to play music and podcasts from my bluetooth speaker while I work but now I can't do that at all.. it kind of makes my premium plan useless.
I have the same issue, Pixel 7 user here. It even happens in offline mode, which is super annoying when traveling. I have done all the recommended things, such as uninstalling and installing again, clearing cache, deleting downloads, etc., but nothing works. I am giving Spotify last month of chance on this one before switching to another service.
Ok since we're not getting any response from Spotify, I did some more digging in my phone settings. I think this has fixed the issue for me.. go to Settings, then Security and Privacy, then More Security and Privacy (scroll to bottom), then make sure "Show media on lock screen" is turned ON. This was turned off on my device, and I vaguely remember fiddling with it somewhat recently. So maybe that's what did it?
Anyways, I haven't tested it out for too long, but I thought I'd come share it with everyone so we can get my theory tested out haha.
Hey there, figured I'd chime in. Not a bad suggestion with the media on the lockscreen, but I also have this issue. In my case, this option was already enabled 😞
That said, I'm curious if anyone noticed the issue "improve" over the past few weeks?
Back in late April I would face this issue every 15-45 mins of continuous playback (at uni in the library). Now, I face it around once a week or so. Oddly, I've only have the issue at home in my bathroom, where I listen for maybe just 30 minutes at a time. I listen much more to Spotify at work (sometimes for 2-4 hours at a time, two times in a day; so 4-8 hours total) and have never had this issue there yet. Recently, my phone has been plugged in all the time at work, but it's been consistently good there even when unplugged.
I wonder if there's an adaptive model or something that tries to learn when to kill apps, to save battery, and if this is why the issue have become rarer in my case.
Anyway,
Phone model: Pixel 7 (non-pro)
Android version: 14 AP2A.240605.024
Spotify version: 8.9.52.55
I just wanted to chime in since I've also been having this issue. Random pausing and unpausing as soon as the screen goes dark. I've noticed it with bluetooth speakers, aux, and just regular phone speakers. Super frustrating.
Pixel 6a
Android v14
Spotify version 8.9.52.552
Also, it definitely is better when plugged in, but not by much. When unplugged it'll play for maybe 1-3 seconds after the screen goes dark. When plugged in, it's more like 10-15 seconds.
This is happening to me too. On a brand new Pixel 7a 😞
Whenever my phone is locked it will cut briefly, start again then completely stop a few seconds later. When I press the side button to wake my screen up, the audio starts again!
Frustrated is an understatement, especially since it's causing my screen/phone to be unlocked in order to listen.
Here are my tech details ;
Phone Model : Google Pixel 7a
Android Version : v14
Spotify Version : V8.9.52.552
I am having the same issue.
I listen to brown noise at night to help me sleep and I cannot on my new Pixel 8 Pro as it keeps pausing when the screen is turned off...
- Google Pixel 8 Pro
- Android 14 AP2A.240605.024.A1
- Spotify version 8.9.52.552
Any additional help is much appreciated 🙂
I am also having the same issues on Pixel 7
Another Pixel 7 Pro user here having exact same issue, seems like an issue from manufacturer.. not the app.
Ya I've wondered whether it's an issue with adaptive battery, but turning it off doesn't seem to matter.
Pixel 7 here with the same issue lags until the screen is unlocked, are we going to get a fix any time soon? this has been going on for a few months now its extremely frustrating.
