Spotify Malicious Behavior on Android

Spotify has begun to override other playback apps (for example the native Android media player and VLC media player) when opening media files and redirects the user to Spotify to create an account. When I used the 'open with' command to change the app that opens the files in an attempt to prevent this (assuming that Spotify had somehow made itself the default app), it again redirected to Spotify rather than giving me a list of other installed media apps. This is unwanted and malicious behavior that is intentionally circumventing the Android system. The only way to stop this behavior was to uninstall Spotify completely from the device.
I consider this to be malware, as Spotify is changing the Android system's behavior without asking for appropriate permissions from the user and is intentionally preventing the user from changing these settings back to default. I have reported this to Google also.
