Spotify app hangs when I try to navigate back to it after being idle for sometime.

Spotify app hangs when I try to navigate back to it after being idle for sometime.

Plan: Premium

Country: New Zealand

Device: Lenovo P11 TB-J606F

Operating System: Android (version 11)

Spotify App version: 8.8.66.653

 

My Question or Issue:

After the Spotify App has been idle (been in the background) for sometime and I attempt to navigate back to it, the Spotify app hangs / freezes at a blank black screen (with blank grey side bar). No content loads. Have to force close the app and then re-launch it to get Spotify behaving correctly again.

 

Have already checked for updates and it appears I'm already on the latest version of the app 8.8.66.653. Have uninstalled and reinstalled the app via Google Play and re-logged back in to Spotify with my account, however, the issue was found to persist.

Thanks for reaching out here in the Community and welcome 🙂 

 

It sounds like you've tried a couple of things already, but let's try some more troubleshooting.

 

We can recommend that you check the phone's battery settings and make sure that Spotify is set as an exception if you're using the battery optimization option.

If you still experience this, it's best to perform a clean reinstall of the app by following this guide. You've mentioned that you've already uninstalled and reinstalled via Google Play, but this one is more thorough than the usual one. It removes corrupted data from previous installations that could be causing issues with the app's performance on your device.

Hi Lyubka, Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately after performng the steps in the guide, the problem was found to persist. Have looked at the battery settings and there did not appear to be any battery restrictions nor optimizations applied against the app it self (as far as I have been able to discover)

Thanks for your reply and for trying out our recommendations.

 

Do you have an SD card on the tablet? If so, could you remove it and try using Spotify again to check if the issue persists? This is just to check, so you can insert the SD card after checking. 

On another note, would you mind asking a friend or a family member to log into their personal Spotify account using your tablet to see if they can replicate this? 

Lastly, could you try using a different Internet connection? If you don't have any available, you could create a hotspot network from your mobile device and use it to check.
