The new update fixed my issue. I've rebooted the phone several times and the setting to have storage on the SD Card has stayed the same.
This is all I get after rebooting and reinstalling.
As far as when it started, I'm not entirely sure, but it was likely in the last 2-3 months.
Here's my storage settings:
It started after an app update, but I'm not sure which one, about the time this thread was started, probably. I had this problem first, worked around by not using my SD card, checked to see if it was fixed one day and noticed the SD card option was gone.
Not sure if it's relevant, but when I try to do a clean re-install, there's no files or folders I can see in the Internal Storage/Android/data path. There were files/folders when I first encountered the problem linked -- it was a clean re-install I tried while troubleshooting that where I noticed I couldn't see anything, not just a Spotify folder. All options to see system or hidden files are turned on, I double-checked that. Not sure if that's helpful, or just an Android change unrelated to this.
I've been downloading my spotify music to my SD card for ages, and suddenly yesterday I noticed spotify was trying to download to my internal storage, which doesn't have enough space. When I look in Spotify settings, there is no option to change where it downloads to. I've tried uninstalling the app, turning my phone on and off, and taking out the SD card. Nothing is working. One extra factor is that I'm outside of the US, which is my home country. I've been abroad for about three weeks now, but I don't see why that should affect anything.
I have spotify premium, running on Android 10, on a Galaxy S9.
Hey @King_Kokimurasaki,
Thanks for posting in the Community and welcome.
We hope you don't mind us moving your post, as it fits better here in this thread.
That being said, would you mind confirming that the app has all permissions granted in your device settings? This is so that the software can recognize the SD card slot, which requires writing and reading rights on storage.
Once you've checked permissions, we'd recommend to ensure you have at least 1GB of free space on your SD card.
If the above doesn't do the trick, would you mind sending us the exact Spotify version you're running on your device?
Keep us in the loop!
Plot twist: if I add local files Spotify can see the contents of my SD card just fine:
Hi folks,
Thanks for the posts and the screenshots.
Can you please let us know what device model and exact OS version you're on?
Cheers.
Hello, I have already done all of the things above but none are working.
My Spotify version is 8.8.12.545
Issue still present. Even clean reinstall of the firmware (via PC, not factory reset) and formatting SD card won't fix it.
Phone: Samsung Galaxy A20
OS: Android 11 (latest)
Spotify version: 8.8.14.575
Hey folks,
Thanks for posting in the Community and welcome.
@King_Kokimurasaki, would you mind sharing with us the details you've exactly checked? Also, can you send us the make/model and OS of the affected device?
It'd really help us if you sent us a screenshot in which we can see the available storage in your SD card and a screenshot of the permission you've given to the app.
@cleyclun, if you already have checked permissions, we'd recommend to ensure you have at least 1GB of free space on your SD card. If you notice everything is in order, would you mind sending us a screenshot of your available space along with the permission you've given Spotify?
Keep us in the loop!
i have like 20GB free
all permission granted

No change storage button (if I remember correctly, it was above log out button):

This whole thing started to happen with latest Samsung firmware update. Here's a screenshot from a Samsung firmware download page:
I am using the latest firmware which has "B" as the Bit/SW REV. Everything was fine at "A". If it's not against community rules and you guys might need the link, I can share that firmware sites link.
Same issue here!!! I've tried every suggestion listed in this thread. Nor can I find the folder that holds the downloaded songs on my phone. I can download songs to my device, then move them to my SD Card but I have zero options to save to a SD card through Spotify.
Google Pixel 6
Android 13
Spotify Version 8.8.14.575
Using a Galaxy A20, I had a 6-month period where Spotify flat-out didn't work on my phone and now I can't use the SD card for it. Both of which I absolutely know are not my fault. Unreal stuff.
Curiously, I just got a Samsung SM-X200 tablet running Android 13. I can save to the SD card on it, but my Samsung A10e phone still can't. Same app version, 8.8.22.510. The A10e is on Android 11, and the SM-X200 is on 13.
Guys, it is ridiculous. For more than 6 months, I can't download every song I want and apps to my phone because of low storage. Can you guys fix this issue now, please? This is unacceptable.
After the latest Samsung firmware update (updated today), issue is resolved for me. Option for moving data to SD card appeared just above sign out button without resetting my SD card or Spotify app.
