After a few replies from Spotify support - they say this is the way it works and it is a 'feature' not a bug (even though it is a newly introduced thing).
If we want it changed we need to submit a new idea and get people to vote for it.
So i have created a new idea request - Please go and vote for it here:
I think I can edit it too, so if there is something else I should add, let me know.
Thanks
This is happening to me too. It is annoying when Im in a playlist that has a few hundred songs in it and want to change to a song I know is only a few below the one thats playing but the list resets itself to the top.
It does this for me if my screen goes to sleep, locks or i switch to another app.
I have recently reset my phone and reinstalled everything from scratch. Galaxy note 3, android 5.0.
Dear Spotify, Please fix this soon.
Seems like it's an Android problem, I'm doing fine on an iPhone.
Have you all updated to Marshmallow?
I have 5.0 - Lollipop. It is the latest version that has been released by my carrier.
i have the same problem on my galaxy S6.. and for me its REALLY annoying since i usually listen to music while driving my car and i don't wana mess around with my cellphone while driving so i usually scroll down to an artist i like in my playlist so i can just press it when i want to change song.. and i have about 500 songs in my playlist so yes this is REALLY annoying and ive been having this issue for weeks.. please fix it spotify, been working so good but now im getting really sick of this..
How do you report things to spotify? Can I add a Me too to your request?
Losing your scroll position is NOT a feature. Why would anyone want to be returned to the top of the play list all the time?
This is going backwards with functionality.
Not happy.
Between this and not being able to control spotify with bluetooth on my car stero - is making for an extremely unpleasant experience for an App I pay good money for. It makes it practically unusable in the car. I will be looking at other music providers on the weekend.
Just downgraded to Spotify 3.5.0.963 (no newer than this worked to install om my LG G4 except 3.8.0.800, but this version did not have the "keep scroll position" function).
But with 3.5.0.963 I am once again able to keep the scrolling position when going back, other places in the Spotify APP or switching between APPs - Hooray!! 😃
I needed to re-sync my offline playlists, but I think that is a small price to pay to solve this "problem" (EDIT: ehm, right... It was no problem...).
Remember to turn off automatic update of the Spotify APP in Google Play, otherwise you will wake up to an unwanted suprise next morning... 😉 😝
@djlufthanza -Where can I get the older version?
@jerrawa
I downloaded it from this page:
http://spotify.en.uptodown.com/android/old
Make sure to uninstall Spotify frist and that you can install APPs from unknown sources 😉
So this is the way:
1. Uninstall Spotify (you'll need to re-sync your offline list).
2. Download Spotify 3.5.0.963 from the link above.
3. Install
(Android may block installation, if so, go to settings and turn on "Allow unknown sources" from the Safety menu)
4. After install, search for Spotify on Google Play and uncheck "Automatic update".
5. Re-sync your playlist (this mat take while if you have a lot of lists / large lists.
6. Enjoy music with the "keep scrollbar position" function!
😉
@djlufthanza - Thanks Ill try that if Spotify doesnt fix this soon.
I have also emailed spotify, and have sent them some more details. Just waiting for another response.
Question for everyone: I think this only happens when Im playing a playlist I that have created. If I play a saved album or from a saved artist, the scroll position is remembered. Is this what is happening for everyone else?

They say it's a new feature? What bull**bleep**. Who would want this? They could have made it an option in the settings, but who, WHO would ever want this?
It's so annoying to scroll down on my playlists every time I want to listen to a different song after pressing the turn off screen button. Especially when I listen to playlists with over 100 songs.
They didn't even announce it in the new features on this site.
What a load of horse**bleep** for an otherwise great app.
I think that saying it is a new feature is a canned response from the support team. Which is kindof ok sometimes when you think of the logistics of supporting such a large user base.
However when a basic function is removed and we get told its a new feature and then get told that we have to vote to have this feature reinstated - this is not cool. I cant think of any reason i (or anyone) would want a playlist to scroll to the top all the time.
