Spotify scrolls to the top of the playlist

Solved!

Spotify scrolls to the top of the playlist

This is white a new problem I've been having, but if I ever leave the playlist I'm playing (if, say, I switch to another app or exit the song list) the playlist automatically scrolls to the top without me doing anything. I'm running Android 5.1.1 and Spotify version 3.8.0.800. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

After a few replies from Spotify support - they say this is the way it works and it is a 'feature' not a bug (even though it is a newly introduced thing).

If we want it changed we need to submit a new idea and get people to vote for it.

So i have created a new idea request - Please go and vote for it here:

https://community.spotify.com/t5/Idea-Submissions/Android-Playlists-Remember-Playlist-scroll-positio...

I think I can edit it too, so if there is something else I should add, let me know.

Thanks

I'm having this same "problem". I used quotations because this really is just a slight annoyance to an otherwise perfect product. Hope it gets solved soon.

When you have playlists that reach anywhere from 20 to 30 albums, it does
get to be a pain in the butt after a while. But, yeah, it really is only a
"problem", I'll concede you that.

This is happening to me too. It is annoying when Im in a playlist that has a few hundred songs in it and want to change to a song I know is only a few below the one thats playing but the list resets itself to the top.

It does this for me if my screen goes to sleep, locks or i switch to another app.

I have recently reset my phone and reinstalled everything from scratch. Galaxy note 3, android 5.0.

Dear Spotify, Please fix this soon.

Seems like it's an Android problem, I'm doing fine on an iPhone.

Have you all updated to Marshmallow?

What's a Spotify Rock Star, and how do I become one?
I'm not a Spotify official! Just here to help!

I have 5.0 - Lollipop. It is the latest version that has been released by my carrier.

I'm also running Android lollipop. Hope this gets fixed soon.

i have the same problem on my galaxy S6.. and for me its REALLY annoying since i usually listen to music while driving my car and i don't wana mess around with my cellphone while driving so i usually scroll down to an artist i like in my playlist so i can just press it when i want to change song.. and i have about 500 songs in my playlist so yes this is REALLY annoying and ive been having this issue for weeks.. please fix it spotify, been working so good but now im getting really sick of this..

I reported this to Spotify for a couple of days ago and they said that this is not a problem..... I reported it again today, linking to this very forum post and, gues what... It is not a problem... Wtf? Here is the answer (seems like that they removed the "keep scroll position" on purpose in the new update?):

"(...)
What you're experiencing with the application is not an ongoing problem and is really part of the update. We're sorry to hear you're not liking it though.
(...)"

Really anyoing when having huge playlist.... 😞

How do you report things to spotify? Can I add a Me too to your request?

Losing your scroll position is NOT a feature. Why would anyone want to be returned to the top of the play list all the time?
This is going backwards with functionality.

Not happy.

Between this and not being able to control spotify with bluetooth on my car stero - is making for an extremely unpleasant experience for an App I pay good money for. It makes it practically unusable in the car. I will be looking at other music providers on the weekend.

RE: @jerrawa:
I used the "Send email" from the Google Play Store, and it opened my email APP for sending a mail to android-support@spotify.com with subject Spotify Music. They replies within minutes (never waited more than 5 minutes)
So I guess the temp. solution will be to downgrade the APP..? Hope for a fix!

Btw I have no trouble using Spotify after update on my Bluetooth Radio in my car (currently using Opel's NAVI 900 IntelLink).

Just downgraded to Spotify 3.5.0.963 (no newer than this worked to install om my LG G4 except 3.8.0.800, but this version did not have the "keep scroll position" function).

But with 3.5.0.963 I am once again able to keep the scrolling position when going back, other places in the Spotify APP or switching between APPs - Hooray!! 😃
I needed to re-sync my offline playlists, but I think that is a small price to pay to solve this "problem" (EDIT: ehm, right... It was no problem...).
Remember to turn off automatic update of the Spotify APP in Google Play, otherwise you will wake up to an unwanted suprise next morning... 😉 😝

@djlufthanza -Where can I get the older version?

@jerrawa

I downloaded it from this page:

http://spotify.en.uptodown.com/android/old

Make sure to uninstall Spotify frist and that you can install APPs from unknown sources 😉

So this is the way:

1. Uninstall Spotify (you'll need to re-sync your offline list).

2. Download Spotify 3.5.0.963 from the link above.

3. Install

(Android may block installation, if so, go to settings and turn on "Allow unknown sources" from the Safety menu)

4. After install, search for Spotify on Google Play and uncheck "Automatic update".

5. Re-sync your playlist (this mat take while if you have a lot of lists / large lists.

6. Enjoy music with the "keep scrollbar position" function!

😉

Dang, I'm surprised how much traction this got. I thought I was all alone in this. But, yeah, I do hope this gets fixed soon, even for how minor it seems.

@djlufthanza  - Thanks Ill try that if Spotify doesnt fix this soon.

I have also emailed spotify, and have sent them some more details. Just waiting for another response.

Question for everyone: I think this only happens when Im playing a playlist I that have created. If I play a saved album or from a saved artist, the scroll position is remembered. Is this what is happening for everyone else?

It really is annoying. I hope it gets solved in an update patch.

They say it's a new feature? What bull**bleep**. Who would want this? They could have made it an option in the settings, but who, WHO would ever want this?

It's so annoying to scroll down on my playlists every time I want to listen to a different song after pressing the turn off screen button. Especially when I listen to playlists with over 100 songs.

They didn't even announce it in the new features on this site.

What a load of horse**bleep** for an otherwise great app.

I think that saying it is a new feature is a canned response from the support team. Which is kindof ok sometimes when you think of the logistics of supporting such a large user base.

However when a basic function is removed and we get told its a new feature and then get told that we have to vote to have this feature reinstated - this is not cool. I cant think of any reason i (or anyone) would want a playlist to scroll to the top all the time.
