Syncing local files asking for premium.

Syncing local files asking for premium.

I have used Spotify to sync local files from my PC to android phone (currently Nexus 4) for a while now.

However when trying to sync a playlist full of local files today I get the 'Premium Required' popup, this is the same for all playlists that I try to sync.

Have Spotify stopped allowing you to sync local files without premium?

It won't synch from the desktop client either? You still get that popup? Bugger 😞

No it doesn't... What desktop client do is the same that Pernicketoad (Reply 14) says: "Spotify swiches to trying to synchronize my entire library of local files" I've asked already on the web's page "contact us" section, but as tomb20 says, not get any answer.

Hope Spotify staff fix it soon!

Just to clarify - I was told it might try to synch all your playlists but you're saying it tries to synch all your local files?

Yeah, that's it.

I (and many here) have playlists with only files, then, when you select the option "select playslists to synch"on the desktop client, on the phone we get the pop-up that says that we need a premium account to do that, and in the last part of that message, it says that only local files can be synch, so, it's funny because that's what all of us here want to do, but Spotify says that we can't do it unless we are premium, even if that playlist or playlists are composed only by local files, then, the desktop client changes to the option "synch all local files" and starts to synch thousands of songs to the phone.

So, what I did days ago was what you have suggested on reply 19, to take away from desktop client that playlist, then put it again and try to synch, but it doesn't work, at least for me, because when I try to synch I get the pop-up again on my phone's screen.

Ah ok, thank you for clarifying that. I'll pester the spotify staff in that case and keep my fingers crossed that this is fixed soon.

Yeah I can second that recreating the playlists does not work. Still getting the 'premium required' pop-up and still trying to sync everything when I select to choose certain playlists from the desktop client (windows).
Thanks for the replies,
Tom

Just to update you, Spotify is looking into this and hopefully there will be a fix soon.

Any updates?

No, Spotify has released and update of the app and also for the desktop client, but everything is exactly the same, not to mention that I think it has gotten worse since the latest update of the app, the pop-up message has changed, now says that "only Premium users can download music for listening offline. Improve your account now." There's no mention to local files, as was the first pop-up showed on first comment.

The attachment is in spanish, and sorry to uploaded in that way, I really have no idea of how to do it as tomb20 did it.

Is there any update to this from the Spotify team?

Had to get a replacement Nexus 4 so thought I'd just give it a go and see if syncing worked but, unfortunately, the problem still occurs.

This is a pretty big problem Spotify so please get it fixed as quick as possible!

Thanks, Tom

As andRiiw said, the popup has now changed to get rid of the bit about syncing local files for free.

Please confirm this is a bug Spotify and you aren't changing it so that premium is required for syncing local files.

Thanks, Tom

Hey

I have connected my phone to my computer, and it is showing up in devices.

I have made a playlist containing ONLY local files.

https://support.spotify.com/us/learn-more/guides/#!/article/Listen-to-local-files According to this link, i should now be able to right click and press (make available offline)

But every time i try i tells me i have to get premium.

I have also tried to make a new playlist and copy all the files into the new list, didn't work either.

Hey there! Mind letting us know the name of the playlist you're trying to sync? The playlists I'm seeing in your account all contain tracks from the Spotify library.

Hi!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think you have the same problem as me and many others in this topic: http://community.spotify.com/t5/Help-Android/Syncing-local-files-asking-for-premium/td-p/459704

It would be great if Spotify could fix this soon........

Have you tried downloading the playlist from the android instead? Open the playlist and hit the "Download" button. Does that work for you or do you get the same premium message?

Hey there. Ny playlist contains song that you have on a library suure. BUT it is also on my local files list. The playlist i try to download is called "Mobil". And i tripple checked that all the songs were on my local playlist. I also tried to download from my android pressing the download button. Same problem.

We have been waiting for more than two months, even we have seen how we got a new pop-up message that says nothing about local files and nothing else has changed since that day because the app still asks for Premium. No one gives us any answer, nothing. So, I'm afraid that this change has come to stay, for me, I think is time to say sayonara Spotify.

I have an Android on the HTC with Beats and Spotify has been working like clockwork on it, until just now. Since I don't have a premium acc, but Unlimited, I can only listen to songs that I have on my computer. To make it more easy to listen to these songs on the phone (thro Spotify of course) I created two playlists with only local files.

Now when I try to download them, Spotify is telling me that I can only listen to local files if I don't have premium... So it's basically saying that all my local files are not local files and refuses to download them.

I also just updated Spotify but the same problem exists. What do I do?

Same problem...

Tried to reinstall spotify on my computer now, i also tried to remove all my local files and get them back.
All i need to try now, is make a playlist with song's that don't exist i spotify and see if it still does it.

This sucks. I love being able to support artists through this program (i go on and off from premium depending on if i have the money that month to pay for it).

Please fix
