Track list doesn't highlight which song is currently playing

Track list doesn't highlight the song being played until I go another app, even just Home or Settings, and then go back to the Spotify app, then the song being played gets the green font.

The video screenshot linked shows this better than I can explain. At the beginning, the song being played is green and you can see the title scrolling. Then other songs get clicked and start playing, which you can also see their titles scrolling, but the list is not updated with green font, until I go to another app, then revert back to Spotify and then the font gets the green highlight.

Hey there @peterlecki,

Thanks for posting in the Community and welcome.

We really appreciate the video you kindly shared. We couldn't replicate this behavior on our side, so we'd recommend you clean reinstall the app on your mobile. By doing that, you can make sure the stored cache is not leading to this behavior.

If the above doesn't do the trick, we'd like to gather some additional info. Please send us:

  • Does this happen on a different mobile device? If possible, you can ask for the mobile device of a relative or a friend to open your account and check.
  • We noticed you're listening to music through a Bluetooth device. Does this happen when the playback comes directly from the phone?
  • Do you use any cache-clearing or task-killing apps? If yes, try setting Spotify up as an exception. Take into account that those apps can affect the performance of the app.

Keep us in the loop!

Doing this only fixed playing songs in my own playlists but still acting the same way on others, that are not mine. Such as artist popular songs list.

Hey there @peterlecki,

Thanks for following up!

Just to confirm, did you notice the same behavior when listening directly from the device's speakers or by connecting to another Bluetooth device/pair of headphones?

There's also a newer version available for the app, it should be 9.0.94. Could you try updating it following the steps listed on this page to see if that does the trick?

Another thing which comes to mind, are you currently using any custom theme/customized layout on your phone? If so, it would be great if you could try changing to a default theme, to see if you notice any difference.

Let us know how you get on 🙂

I'm on 9.0.94.274
No difference in audio output
No custom anything. As vanilla as can be.

Hey @peterlecki,

Thanks for the additional details - we appreciate it!

If possible, it would be great if you could try signing in to another Android device to see if your account appears in the same way there. For example, you can log in to your own Spotify account on a friend or family member's device.

We can also suggest giving playback a try in Offline Mode, as well with another internet connection, just to check if the issue persists. If you're currently using WiFi, you can try with 4G/5G.

Keep us posted!
