My Question or Issue

Harley quinn and joker podcast trailer will always play with video even with data saver on and canvas off and stream audio only on. I would like a way to turn off all video when data saver is on

My concern about this issue is that when I am listening to a podcast in my car (or out on a walk) I get a lot of lag and pauses because I have very bad cell service, and the app is trying to play a video of people talking. This is not an issue when I listen to a podcast without video. I would like the option to turn off the video as I'm not even watching it - could be a REAL distraction when driving a car.

Please add an option to disable videos generally! Especially in podcasts Thank you spotify.

Please give us an option to just turn off video. I come to Spotify to listen to things. My devices already bombard me with unwanted video - why add Spotify to the clamouring chorus of light pollution?

I just opened Spotify and my head exploded. Spotify please. Please do not enshitify. You were doing so well. We don't want to be force-fed videos. I promise you people will cancel their subscriptions if the platform is made to be about anything other than audio.

Hello,

Spotify doesn’t currently offer a way to fully block video content like podcasts or canvases on regular accounts. The best option is to use the Spotify Kids app (for ages 12 and under) via a Premium Family Plan, which excludes videos entirely. Otherwise, consider switching to a service like Apple Music or Qobuz, which offer more control and fewer distractions. Frustrating, but you're not alone in this.

Clark Dahl

The device I'm using is Galaxy A32 4G (LTE), with 64GB, 4GB RAM. I know my phone is not powerful enough to run Spotify smoothly, but I think there should be a setting to at least turn off the videos that play automatically on the menu screen. These videos cause so much lag that the app is practically unusable. Going into the library, the lag is gone, but I have to go home to explore other music. Also, there should be a way to turn off these excessive videos (not for those with good device specs though) Having more than 6 music videos on this spec is just too much 😛

I hate the videos that show while playing music, instead of just cover art. It's distracting when in the car. I don't have one of those stupid infotainment screens, so no app to run through.

Has anyone found a way?

It's such a shame here because I can see a great service (Spotify) becoming totally ruined by developers.

It is feature complete. Stop.

Bug fix only please; these additions are distracting and not what people pay for

As anyone found a solution to disable the videos?

My son has been using Spotify for years, listening to music and audiobook.

Now, he found out that podcasts have videos and spend his day watching video podcast, starring at his screen the whole day.

Today, not being able to disable the videos, I blocked Spotify for him.

I'll start looking for competitors who let people disabling videos.

I left Spotify last month, done with this garbage - continuously adding **bleep** which isn't asked for.  I want music plain and simple.  If there was at least a reliable way to turn off all the excess trash it might be manageable but it's not worth the trouble, and certainly not worth the price.  Stick it.

Goodbye Spotify! This video thing will make me cancel my family subscription.

We are also about to cancel our Family subscription because our son is glued to the screen watching video clips and background music videos behind lyrics being displayed despite us having disabled Canvas. Sounds like Apple Music might be the place to go? Can anyone confirm?

Same here. I loved Spotify for providing a stage for artists that I wasn’t yet familiar with. Now it’s become just one of the many platforms that seeks to addict (young) people with video and interactive features.

Spotify is for music, not videos. Sort it out or we will be leaving the app.

This stupid video preview is distracting. I want a music service, not a video platform.

Really amazing that this thread has been active for well over a year with everyone expressing the same concern and requesting the same resolution and yet nothing has been done and no responses have been offered but the one back in June of 2024. I also enjoyed Spotify for a variety of reasons but most for allowing my children access to music safely without the temptation of staring at a screen. Unfortunately it looks like this will need to be another door to close in an effort to keep kids safe and away from inappropriate content and unhealthy habits. What a shame.

I've installed Spotify Lite, doesn't have videos, only music as a Lite version of the main Spotify. Works for me for my kids to no to get stuck in the videos.

You can't turn off Canvas or Videos permanently. Spotify kids are not activated in all countries, so doesn't work for me, also I tried to create a supervised Child account and they only said that the don't match the minimum age requirements. I have solved this replacing the app for Spotify Lite, no videos, only music, minimalistic app.

Wow - that sounds great. Thanks for the update
