It's not built into android but there are several apps in Play to give the functionality you seek.
I haven't tried any myself but there are so many free ones, you can try them until you find one you like.
This is not true.
I had a samsung S3 and was able to do this. I then had an LG Nexus and was able to do this. Now I have an S7 and can't do this.
